If typography were a religion, this would be the Bible. FontBook is the world s most comprehensive typographic reference tool, containing 110 typefoundries and featuring over 620,000 typeface specimens. Use the FontBook app to look ...
Lots of way to view by designer by year by font type you can edit the sample text fun reference              Interesting app very easy to view fonts
I dont know why people keeps complaining About this app I think its good Its just what I needed and its only 99 cents                 Awesome
The UI is annoying and the content is crap This app was promptly deleted     I want my money back
This app does let you browse through a lot of fonts Unfortunately the UI does essentially nothing to answer the question How should I approach the task of browsing through a library of thousands of fonts The app is designed around sizemortised grids much like many disk space auditing apps on PCs with size apparently being defined as number of fonts Unfortunately that means the UI presentation has little to do with any information you might actually be interested in as a font consumer eg what fonts are similar to this one The basic premise of the app is illconceived        Not successful
I wanted to wait to review until they upgraded to retina Now that it is full resolution this app is great Beautifully designed lets you seamlessly explore and discover Font families The only thing I wish it had was the ability to easily view the entire glyph set and up close Otherwise this app is a must for the designer                 just great
Whats the point of a font app if you cant see what the typeface looks like if you want specific letter forms Dont buy        Im not sure
Great app and great content but Very slow on iPad 3           Very slow on iPad 3
I try not to use the word awesome lightly but its definitely applicable to this app I work in the creativedesign industry and this has already become an indispensable tool for me Easy to navigate huge amount of typefaces and it looks great                 Awesome
I am a typophile and the fact that an app like this exists just makes me so happy However I am quite disappointed that fonts from my favorite font foundry is not listed in this app Please add the Hoefler and Frere Jones foundry to this app as well as the Lost Type font foundry              I love this app
The app description clearly states you wont be able to use the font shown This app is for designers etc that want to explore fonts to use for a project Someone designs these fonts and to think you will get access to the hundreds of fonts shown is simply naive If you are a graphic designer like me then ignore the ignorant comments for this app It is well worth the 6                 Not for getting fonts
I love to have this many fonts to look for when I need something But the looking for fonts and the trying out fonts in form of one line sample text is restricted to the tiny screen of an iPhone Why are these features not available for the iPad When will this feature be available Was hoping that version 4 would solve this           No customizable sample text
You tried reinventing the wheel and it didnt work This tile format stinks Im sorry and I love FontShop but it does When you drill down into a class Slab Serif freehybrid for example some font tiles are so TINY you cant really see them while others are 5x larger Really focus on that Why why why is it like that Some font names are truncated too Huh Do you see how the tiles are crippling I see you changed from Rg to Rag youre listening but that didnt really do anything Go back to the font specimen books of old and start from there Think the best font specimen book ever not cool font app The tile approach makes this app less useful than the book itself Steal the sideshow idea too It would be nice to pick a class sit back and watch it scroll through everything by itself tapping pauses and allows you to save your favorites 30 Not much else to say I give up This app will NOT be useful until the tiles are dead I kept the last version installed just to get an alert when it was updated Disappointing     Still needs a Uturn
Great update that supports the retina screen This app is great for browsing and searching fonts for design projects The different ways of navigating through all the fonts really help to search for exactly what you are looking for or browse for inspiration                 Great way to find fonts and be inspired
Previous versions of FontBook were sensational This latest version 30 is full of bugs Text samples dont display properly Motion is steppy and full of jaggies The last edition warranted 5 stars 30 in its current form is a dud     Dont Upgrade to 30
Your app sorely needs updating Also consider adding access to Font Magine from the app           Font Magazine
I love the different ways in which the fonts are grouped and organized The Usage based search is especially useful for finding alternatives to particular typefaces best choices for different applications ie web usage small text and sorting by time period decade of release or larger artistic movements This app has crashed once while I attempted to mark a favorite font but even the best apps crash from time to time so Im not going to penalize them for that                 Nicely organized and presented
At one time this was a top font resource app for designers Now its just timeconsuming An exercise in futility     Painful to use
Well I spent 6 bucks for it when it first releasedits kind of clean and pretty especially the screenshots on iTunes I had some fun with it and was tempted to rate it 5 stars But when I started to actually try to use it for work 8 months after my purchase I find the app laggy on the 3rdgen iPad the samples way too small on the box view and that it requires 5 to 6 taps to do almost any simple task Worst of all I spent half an hour trying to change the sample text from Rag to something else just to find out later that its not possibleso I was stuck with screens filled with 200 boxes saying Rag as if they think Im obsessed with Rag     Pretty screenshots
If you like or use type at all you have to buy this app The search and compare features alone made a recent task of creating ten type palettes far easier than it would have been anywhere else I had the previous printed FontBook which I rarely used This I use many times a week The Retina upgrade is the icing on the cake                 Truly spectacular
iPad Air Still too slow           Too slow
A good collection of fonts is buried within a clunky interface with poor performance You are expected to wade through a wall of tiny previews of the word Rag and click through several times before you can actually see what the font looks like     Bad interface
if youre a typelover or just appreciate welldesigned apps check it out very nicely done                 oh my what a pretty app
This app is utterly useless because of its slow response time between clicksswipes You feel as if you have a 56K modem and attempting to download an encyclopedias worth of information You have to page through 6 pages to see each fonts information rendering it impossible to see many fonts within a reasonable period of time After spending a couple of hours stumbling through its interface I found one sample font that summed up my experience The Teebrush font displayed the word Painful and thats what it is when you use this app     Completely Useless
This app is great for looking up typefaces as inspiration for lettering projects However they NEED to update it with retina graphics most of the small type looks HORRIBLE on the new iPad           Useful but NEEDS an update
Slow as molasses and very frustrating to navigate Very poorly thought out and designed     Terrible and unfriendly
Cant help myself This app is so well designed and just looks so good on my iPhone 6 that it needs no greater purpose other than a glorified catalog Wish I had an iPad to enjoy its full potential Now a staple app on this iPhone                 Excellent Resource
Want to give this 5 stars Its really very very impressive The only thing I have to wonder is why they dont allow for customizable text This is a no brainer for professionals unless I start looking for clients all named RAG which is the preview text shown Great work but do this one update and youll sell a ton more of this app as well as make us designers very VERY happy              An incredible app except for
I foolishly assumed this app would allow previews of userdefined text like the iPhone version But this feature is completely missing Buyers beware           No Customizable Text
The app version is so much more usable than the hardcover edition especially with the added features of the recent update I especially like the new Use Case section Getting this level of content and filtering of the Bible of typography is an incredible bargain I refer to this app almost every workday                 Incredibly useful
App is horribly slow on iPad 3 The New iPad and slow on iPad mini Wish to do a My own named Font Collections not just starred fonts in future versions           Very slow App
The iPhone version allows setting sample text which is hugely useful and speeds up the process of reviewing possible fonts for specific content PLEASE add this feature to the iPad version              Excellent but
Great interface easy to use Love the samples they give in context and ability to write custom text Worth way more than 99 Only wish I had enough money to buy the fonts I like                 Great app
The app itself is awesome it has a very useful and beautiful user interface but the big problem is that when scrolling through the fonts the app gets too laggy almost unusable even on my iPad 3 Please fix it           Too Laggy
Worth every cent Once you get the hang of the navigation it just gets deeper and deeper Excellent reference resource                 Brilliant
The update causes constant crashes App opens fine but doing anything causes it to crash luckily I still had the previous version to downgrade to     Latest update constant crashes
Still incredibly slow on 3rd gen iPad For an app that pretty much only shows you fonts this is ridiculous        Sloooow
Great job This is awesome The hard copy FontBook is one of my prized possessions And now this app is too Already discovering lots of new favorites It makes exploring them so much fun Search by year is sweeeeet been waiting to be able to that somewhere forever Thanks One niggle Ive always loved FontBooks similar fonts recommendations in the book On cursory glance I havent found it in the app Perhaps implement it in an update if its not Its a very helpful feature                 Thank You
This app is encyclopedic and beautifully designed Thanks to the makers for selling this at 99 Love the way it organizes the material Wow                 Well worth the
This app is pretty amazing and a clear beautiful library of fonts Only feature i would request is font detection via camera This would be extremely handy for those random fonts we find in prints and dont know what they are off the top of our heads              Font Detection
The is a well designed app with a lot of typefaces to browse There are many ways to explore the various typefaces that make finding and comparing different types fun and interesting The only problem is this app has been crashing constantly since update It seems to be related to the favorite button Im using latest version of iOS 7 on iPhone 4S iPad model just before iPad Air This crashes the iOS and forces reboot black screen with apple logo I hope to see a fix soon Keep up the good work on developing this app           Beautiful but crashing
Its the perfect companion to any typography book at you are reading                 Enthralling
Me being a natural typophiliac I did not need any further convincing to buy this typebased app Little did I know this app would be too good to be true I was so impressed i was actually compelled to express my excitement through writing my first ever ratingreview Fontbook is well worth whatever price its set Its classification of type from genre to time period to foundry is unparalleled by any type resource Ive encountered A must buy for graphic designers and typographic enthusiast                 Do Not Hesitate to Buy
Pros Its the only app I can find that lets me browse categorized fonts Attractive interface though a little peculiar at times Offers several different wayssizes when previewing fonts Cons Very slow on my iPhone 4 Takes up a minimum of 214 mb after install Thats with the cache at the lowest setting 5 mb You can save fonts to favorites but you cant label them or categorize them further I would love to see either of these features in an update Does not follow VoxATypl classification though that isnt necessarily a bad thing        Enormous app size and slow on iPhone 4
First off the app is useless Where I thought I was paying 6 to be able to select and USE different fonts that is NOT the case To be honest I dont care about the history of each font I wanted to be able to USE them in a graphic design process You do not have that ability with ought purchasing 30 40 or 60 font packs Rediculous Second you pay for the app to find out its not what you thought or need and 6 for a useless app is just plain stupid in my book Not happy about being stuck with this app now Third this block style display is a flat out PITA Some displays are so small you are forced to click on them JUST to get a decent look Clean up that garbage All in all completely dissatisfied Wish I could get my money back     Disappointed at useless app
As a designer I find this to be an extremely useful app I am on an ipad2 and it works great Its fast enough its welldesigned it allows you to compare fonts with each other with your own text You can search in all the ways designers search for fonts online And it works offline too There is a learning curve but if you tap around enough you will figure it out Its definitely worth the price              It IS a great app
I did not realize I was paying 6 for an App to purchase the fonts I thought I was purchasing fonts not a book to buy the fontsI REGRET making this purchase I had to rate this app a star to submit this review otherwise I wouldnt have given it any stars     Mislead
Pretty but useless Youll find no use for this app unless you know the font name beforehand One cannot flick trough the fonts as a book despite the name Lots of tiles wich show little useless or rather no information at all And now it got awfully slow     Useless
It crashes on downloading news I havent been able to try it for 10 seconds     Crashes on startup
Useful app that help each designer to choose a suitable type for the project              Designers App
This app is rich in content and organized well however the box display as unique and visual as it is hinders the font browsing experience It can become taxing trying to view each font family in their tiny box and easy to overlook others It would be great if you could choose between the box display and a list display so you can get a better look at each specimen before you click              Great content difficult presentation
