I am a full time ocean mariner I originally paid the one time fee for this app for lifetime charts It is not ok to renig on our deal and wipe my charts For those paying annually you may be at sea someday and find that your charts have been suddenly wiped from your device at expiration It happened to me This is a severe safety issue and is unethical I ve since discovered there are other great chart apps none charge annually     Boater Scam Pw henderson
I am disappointed in this app The android version 14 99 has time distance and speed where this app 54 99 doesn t I wish I could get a refund             Disappointing Honolulu Tom
I purchased the app years ago for my iPad and it worked well I paid a healthy fee I believe close to 100 Now I m being prompted suddenly to renew a annual subscription for some features such as automatic routes This is new and in my opinion shouldn t be allowed it s bait and switch buyer beware             Good app but bait and switch 537425
Why in a million years would I want Facebook integration in a marine navigation application     Facebook W.L.C.
I bought this for my iPad from the App Store because I have the corresponding chart card for use in my Raymarine MFD I wanted the ability to create and save routes at home This doesn t work The auto route function does nothing at all There is no in app instructions or help button Wish I could get my money back     Save your money Can't think of one.....
On screen maps look great Auto plotting routes is really slow and that s at home on a very good wifi connection on a new iPad Air 2 with 128 GB Tried to autoplot a 53 mile route from Ft Walton to Perdido Key the app kept stopping and just showing a straight line not on channel going straight across land After 4 tries I broke the route into 2 pieces and it finally worked although one part still took over 2 minutes to plot Will see this weekend how it does when I take that cruise and try to plot some other routes on a 3G OBTW If you buy this HD version for iPad be aware it isn t available on iPhone For iPhone you would have to get the non HD version for another 15 purchase         Slow autoplotting The OtherWoman II
I bought this app before learning that the iPad WiFi doesn t have internal GPS I bought an external Garmin GLO GPS Bluetooth device to fix that problem but the Navionics app still shows an incorrect position Dangerous when trying to use when boating Navionics customer support gave a BS answer that stated that they don t test their apps It is fraudulent to sell this product to iPad WiFi owners     Don t buy it SanJuanBoater
I use the app for general navigation and positioning our vessel over subsea targets It works well for that The ipad and a Bluetooth GPS can be readily moved and doesnt require a lot of setup It could use a couple tweeks i think Being able to place and name marks is very handy It would be nice if you could put a range circle on a mark as well It would also be handy if you could measure short distances in yards or fee not just mile or nautical miles                 Nice App could use some tweeks Starkadh
This was a great program now it is so confusing hard to use and impossible to do planning Give me back the previous version I am very unhappy     What have you done pw!642
App falsely claims to allow transfer of routes between iPad and Raymarine chart plotters It did wonderfully until they killed that feature in last version and they have no stated plans to bring this back As you can tell from forums we all bought this 50 app solely to create routes on my iPad and transfer to chart plotter That is the single best product claim over the iNavx app It also errors out every time I try to buy an in app upgrade 50 wasted Back to iNavx which rocks     Falsely claims Raymarine integration teemacdee
I purchased the previous version of this app so that I could plan routes on my iPad and then sync them with my Raymarine e127 chartplotter Navionics inexplicably removed this function from the new version of the app I now have no use for this 50 app     Plotter Sync Disabled in New Version wstrauss
Sorry raise the number of waypoints after a year I m at the limit Need to download maps repeatedly due to glitches Need additional marker icons Should not have to agree to terms each time you start the app Give me another 100 markers and you could have 4 stars         Limited waypoints map glitches JJjeffries
This would be a perfect program if it only had a course up option It is set up for true north only as far as I can tell and not magnetic north This program is next to useless without course up MaxSea has course up plus many more useful options NAVIONICS LETS GET WITH THE PROGRAM AND CORRECT THIS ISSUE RIGHT AWAY         NO COURSE UP OPTION Google cal
This app works great with my ipad 2 and my Garmin Glonass It allows me to easily create routes before boating while I m in the water and after a trip I purchased the additional advanced boating app which gives me a fishing function that allows me to focus on specific contours and depths It is an exceptional back up to my onboard chart plotter In addition I Purchased a waterproof case for my ipad My only complaint is that the app for the ipad doesn t the a chart up boat up setting                     Excellent Boating And Fishing App John McCollister
March 31 2014 5 30 PM My comments below may be in error or may be reconsideration by Navionics of the impact of their attitude about Legacy versions A new version of Navionics was posted a few minutes ago and SHAZAM it is now working again If it really is a bug that inadvertantly slipped past their programmers then I extend my profound apologies I am willing to convert my reduced rating from one star to a 3 star rating contingent upon the continuing performance of this software But I recommend that purchasers be aware of the problems and decide for themselves as to whether the problems were truly erroneous bug problems vs more intentional inactivation Previous posting March 30 2014 I first purchased the US Canada version a few years ago Although there were a few shortcomings I gave it a high rating Paid 50 for the APP then additional in APP purchases But now the latest version is inoperable TOTALLY Rather than a proper purchase Navionics now demands an annual subscription and has inactivated all the earlier copies They use a spurious claim that it is because of iOS7 But it was working perfectly well with iOS 7 for the past several months It died with iOS7 6 There is a cursory comment on their home page claiming it is due to iOS7 This is an outrageous and extortionist way to deal with customers and Apple should confirm that this is acceptable according to their terms of contract I would give is Zero stars if that were only possible My earlier reviews praised this APP But this borders on criminal behavior by Navionics Strongly suggest combination of complaints directly to Navionics and also post lots of notes on all Sailing and Cruising bulletin boards Harvey Karten Webmaster TOGNEWS             Is Update to Navionics APP a rip off or is it a genuine accidental BUG HJKarten
Had app for 2 years have done all updates then last week stopped loading Had to delete lost all previous routes and download again New version did not have auto routing which I paid for last year Now it will not even open on my iPad Also noticed all old reviews are gone on this page What s going on and how can I get it straightened out again         Something is wrong Baxter200
I ve owned several versions of this application and have paid for full versions at least twice I just upgraded the app again only to notice that the detail found in my prior version was far greater than this version Now Navionics is asking me for another 55 PER YEAR to subscribe I start my search for a new charting software app today Thanks but no thanks     Why does Navionics think it s ok to ding me every year to upgrade the application Boulder Andrew
This is an excellent app with a great user interface Far better than iNavX Please consider adding gpx and kml import capability so that the app can interface with Weather4D and allow route and waypoint sharing This would really improve it Thank you                     Excellent App MikeW52
I got the icon on my iPad to update this app but when clicked it displayed an error message UPDATE UNAVAILABLE WITH THIS APPLE ID Odd since I have only one AppleID This error prevents the use of the Update All button I looked up the product to see it still available in iTunes and it had an OPEN button like you see when and update is loaded This worked product was updated fine but the next morning I received an email invoice for 59 72 Not what I intended nor expected At no point was I told that I had to repurchase the product to download an update Just a warning of caution should you encounter similar     Update triggered another Purchase googull
No thanks I m glad I read the other review Will definitely skip updating this time     99 Subscription Skwcrj
I m afraid the latest change requiring a 99 annual subscription has made this very good program worthless in my opinion Please offer a lower cost option that will allow me to get updates as I need them In the meantime I have switched to other navigation programs     Subscription Only Updates Left handed
This app is simply amazing and I have used it from it s inception The price will seem high but when compared to navigation programs for any other platform it is cheap especially considering that the charts are included That being said doesn t erase my annoyance at their high school marketing tactics First I had to re buy the new version and then I had to make in app purchases to make it fully functional It felt like I was playing a video game and had to buy extra lives to continue play If they would just grow up and price the app with the in app purchases included I would gladly pay and feel good about doing so instead of feeling like I was being played The app works perfectly on all my devices and on my boat the iPad has become my go to navigation screen It sits right next to my main chart plotters but often on a different scale I love the long very visible course vector as it allows you to helm directly to a point without setting the autopilot Since I sail in Washington State s San Juan Islands this is a big benefit as you try to helm a course as straight as possible with multiply islands and shoals between you and your destination The first time I used the autorouting feature I was more in awe than when I first saw my car on a moving map on my first GPS This feature is a bit beta in that it can crash easily while manipulating a route in automatic mode I suggest you save the route immediately upon it s successful creation Modify the route only after it has been saved Of course as other reviewers point out the instructions are poor and saving the route is far from intuitive There is no save button since it s supposed to save automatically but it won t save a newly created Current Route until you switch to another route or press Go and then Stop I save the route by switching to another route and it when you confirm you want to change routes it will safe the newly created route to your archives Failure to save will result in the loss of your entire route and modifications if the app should crash Creating a route can be fickle but don t give up One of the things that caused me grief is that the default draft of your vessel will be too large especially for my waters Update your Boat Settings before creating a route and set the Draft to a water depth you can live with The app equates this Draft to a minimum water depth when creating or modifying a route in automatic mode I am often in less than 20 feet of water so to make the routes calculate I set the Draft to 12 feet The only disadvantage to this is that the autoroute will use this Draft to cut the corner around a point or obstacle a little too tight for my safety preference It creates the route correctly using the12 foot depth but once out of a dredged entrance or shallow passage I would prefer a less risky journey It s easy to change once the route has been created and saved by simply dragging the waypoints that autoroute created further from the obstacle The most annoying feature of the app is that it uses your current location to start all activities When you are aboard your boat this is a small problem but when you are 300 miles inland doing some planning or just playing around with the app to learn how it works this renders the app almost useless For example when you try to create a route to a point you select it starts downloading maps for 300 miles of land and tells you the route won t calculate Duh You have to wait until it downloads 300 miles of nothing before you can modify the start point Even when abroad your vessel this can be a pain since you can t plan a route for say Day 3 of your voyage without dealing with this issue The solution of course is that Navionics should allow you to input both your destination and your start point I m sure this will be fixed once pointed out to the excellent customer service of Navionics I have contacted them several times and they have always responded however as they have grown more successful they are not as responsive as they used to be This app deserves 5 stars and if it were not for the childish in app purchase requirements or a few bugs in the new autorouting feature I would have gladly given the higher rating Happy cruising                 Most Used App Aboard CaptainRandy
Navonics has generally been a pretty good nav program but has always been completely lacking in documentation and there s nobody home at customer support I do like the map synthesis and zooming capability as a course monitoring tool If your iPad or iPhone has a real GPS in it it s a reasonable backup for your on board nav system The autorouting addition is useless The only thing it does is turn the route line red if you can t make a direct path between waypoints Well Duh I was led to believe its supposed to FIND a route Does anyone at Navonics have a boat any actually use this software I want my 4 99 back Those dollars would be better spent stapled to a wall in some bar in the Bahamas     AutoRoute AutoWaste of 5 00 Chopper head
The need to make it very clear this ONLY works realtime on iPads with 3G capabilities It is worthless otherwise and does not tether to my iPhone as a back up since I don t have 3G Wasted 54 hope iTunes will refund me     Do NOT buy if you don t have 3G on iPad SMKLUCK
Detailed coverage of most of North America indispensable for boaters planning a trip                     Great App Siplicity46
The app is simple to use but I have found several instances where Bouys and other aids to navigation are missing Unless you zoom in closely many Bouys are not visible The logic that makes markers appear and disappear is not clear so it is difficult to determine if you are actually seeing all the markers in a particular area I wouldn t recommend using this app without double checking your route on a paper chart rather defeats the use of a digital chart doesn t it         Missing Bouys Markers Tug Drifter
These are good maps Biggest issue for fishing use is the limited zoom factor Contours with 1 foot increments are too tight at max zoom Need to be able to get in closer Love the syncing between iOS devices I added the routes option Works well and easily It would be nice to be able to hide Waypoint icons Also a tap to magnify feature would be good                 Good app Needs some improvement flkeys
I use this in Maine on the ocean It is a complement to my aging Raymarine chart plotter It is so much easier to plot a route although I am sure if I upgraded the boat s electronics I would see the same kind of easy touch screen features for thousands of dollars though I snap it into an Arkon rail mount that accepts the iPad even in an Otterbox Defender Two things would make it even better 1 When underway if you decide to edit a route then go to save it the two boxes are Save Route and Delete Route They are close together and if you aren t precise and hit the delete box the route is gone How about a default question box that asks if you want to delete Bouncing around in the real world and editing as you see the actual buoy location is common so this would recognize that 2 How about an option to shift to a Heads Up display orientation Seems obvious and easy but not a feature in any version so far This would help me quickly compare it to my radar display without a mental calculation on direction This App is a great value accurate and easy to use                 Great App 2 Suggestions GBC151
They seemed to have fixed the random crashes Sometimes the screen is just black Also sometimes I start up and the screen is blank and I have to kill the app and restart The other problem is that sometimes it starts up thinking that I have not downloaded any maps I have to get an wifi connection to get access to the maps A nuisance at best Also it is would be nice if it gave current heading By far the worst part of this app is that there is zero support I have reported all of the above and NEVER received a response to acknowledge that my issue has been received It is an okay app if it was 10 but not 50 or 60     Zero support Not worth the money Roadsailor89
I used this program with great success everywhere in Puget Sound and the San Juan Islands However after June update the screen is black Speed works fine but chart area is blank What to do                 Navionics Chemo5
I was dissapaointed to find out that some Canadian Charts are missing We cruise in the North Channel a lot and there is no detail for some of the area because Navionics uses vector charts and the Canadian Hydrographic Society does not have vestor charts for these area just raster Be careful if you cruise the North Channel and Georgian Bay             Missing some Canadian Charts NC Sailor
After being very impressed with the US version incredible detail and useful features being added by the developer over time I was sorely disappointed after plunking down 50 plus for the US Canada flop I expected the same detail in Canada that I enjoy in the States but the difference is night day In fact the charts look identical to the charts in the US version I hope Navionics puts the money I gave them into fixing this issue And by the way they can t even bother to return my emails on the issue Ouch I got burned     Disappointed Eddy Blueliner
App downloads as a shell and lake map info must all be downloaded separately unlike previously versions of this program This would be a minor nuisance if the details would actually download but all I get is a reqesting map progress bar that never progresses Sad Truly sad Next Week I have tried downloading maps again and it is working well and fast now so I ll jump app up to 4 stars I d still like the option to direct install all maps automatically but maybe that file would be too large for even 64 gig iPad i don t know thanks for fixing app R                 Does not work Ctfsgukhfd
Agree with HJ Karten Except I feel by the time they add true chart plotting features it won t be an upgrade but they will have a brand new version which will cost 40 50 dollars again like they previously did People who run this mobile division of Navionics is definitely not the same people who run their marine division     Needs real features MikeP-VTCATS
This app is AWESOME It saved us 5000 We were going to get a Gamin system installed on our boat but a friend told us about this app and now we don t have to spend that money It s an awesome app and easy to use Thanks                     Yvonnesrealestate Yvonnesrealestate
The magnifying glass button is just a repeat of the i button and not only unnecessary but easily accidentally pressed All the other buttons should be grouped together away from the corners and made smaller to reduce the chance of error App still crashes usually after zooming             New interface distracting 45387
This is certainly a capable charting app But display quirks make the charts harder to read than they should be 1 Depths may be oddly decimalized so for example an 18 foot contour line may have 17 9 on it This problem varies from location to location in some locations the display is cluttered with decimal depths making the whole thing hard to read 2 A grid of pink duck like symbols frequently clutters the display a watermark 3 Vivid red rock symbols splashy Marina icons and too many depths make small scale views nearly unusable Version 2 0 added fluffy features like the ability to read nautical articles but did not fix these version 1 problems             Flaws in chart display annoy skkippy
The charting has been consistently good on my Navionics apps and this one seems very good too There are some negatives I can find no real documentation so far I have not found a way to edit a route waypoint using lat long coordinates There seems to be no way to edit fuel consumption or boat speed I can create a marker by pointing at a location or searching on lat long then create a marker from it but there seems to be no way to edit the lat long after creating the marker Otherwise the app is stable so far and I can work around many of the shortcomings It provides a lot of chart coverage a good value that way but I expect a much more polished app for this kind of money             Not quite finished ChasStillman
Using this on a fishing trip with an iPad 2 and a Dual brand Bluetooth GPS receiver The map data is great and it works well while the boat is moving but the position will not update if moving under about 10 mph I have to kill the app and relaunch it once the speed is over 10 mph or it will not work If the bugs get worked out this will be a great tool             Has troubles AJandCJ
As an avid cruiser I have used many chart plotting applications both PC based as well as on standalone chartplotters and this app is without question the most intuitive easy to use and fastest to obtain information of any package available and I love it HOWEVER in my view it is not suitable for real time use as an aid to navigation because it is HIGHLY likely to crash just about every time you use it Earlier versions of the software were considerably more stable and I have high hopes that the problem of frequent crashes will be solved but until it is you ll be rebooting often the good news is that even with the frequent crashes this is a VERY worthwhile product                 Outstanding App BUT It s Not Stable KismetGil
Love the maps on the bigger screen also have the apps on my iPhone much easier to see with my old eyes and the GPS positioning and tracking is very accurate great app                 Big Bold Accurate Ebmohst
Found the tide section to be useful Study areas to boat and ports to see along New York and New Jersey                     Sea Cure Sjameson
Honestly I think the worst thing about the app is that the iPad screen has a lot of glare This app covers the entire US and Canada for lakes and Saltwater Not every lake in existence is covered with mapping detail According to the company the lakes list is the same as the HotMaps Platinum and Premium products there is a list on the website they sell for marine GPS use So the product includes about 17 000 lakes with map detail and 1000 of the best HD maps this is the largest library of lake maps I am aware of The lakes data is supposedly the best available but understand whats currently available are often antique DNR maps not realy detailed However The HD lakes are 1 increments and are the exact same as those in the companys HotMaps product which are considered to be the best lake maps by many boat GPS users especially fishermen IMPORTANT Check if the lake you want is listed on the company website first if your lake is listed as an HD lake you will probably be very happy with the app Otherwise its a gamble Saltwater coverage is the same as the existing Navionics Gold products but here the mobile app can overlay Google and Bing Tides and Currents are included with nice sine wave displays The new wind forecast overlay has been pretty accurate and is a nice touch as a free update The Gold maps are standard for Raymarine chartplotters so you know the navigation data is very accurate The app for coastal use is a GREAT value esp if you can use the iPad inside Oh Navionics charts arent cheap The US saltwater and Canadian charts that this app uses costs 450 The HotMaps products are 150 each I have had the app crash a number of times usually while i was bouncing in and out of it Usually it will run for hours without a hitch if that is the only app Im using The company has been very good about regular functionality updates The routes and waypoints interface is pretty basic but super easy anyone can figure it out in minutes The UGC function is also very interesting I ve used Navionics map products for over 8 years as part of my job and I know their maps are usually the best or the map doesnt exist at all This is a great app if you want to use it on the coast On lakes make sure the lake you want is covered This is the best complete navigation suite out there for the iPad at this point Oh an otterbox is a good investment using the iPad otw                     Excellent value High Definition lakes and Saltwater LakeKayakKid
The quality and quantity of charts provided by this package presents an excellent value This is marred by bugs and lack of features in the software Bugs As others have said the App crashes frequently while inputing markers even after manually quitting other apps and restarting iPad This is on my iPad 1 I don t know if the additional memory in the iPad 2 improves this When the App crashes all work that hasn t been saved which seems to require a manual quit is lost I m about to re enter various markers for my upcoming fishing trip for the fourth time I am already braced for the fact that markers I save while out on the water i e Big muskie caught here will be lost during my trip The App needs to do a better job of saving as you go This is particularly important for an application running on an operating system that doesn t really feature or encourage a quit but saves shouldn t depend on quitting anyway Missing Features A way to import and export marker and route files from the desktop DropBox etc I can email a single marker out to myself but not the entire file of markers from a specific lake trio etc It would be great if I could create a CSV or tab file of markers and then import them Instructions are terse Don t know yet I haven t tested it out on the water so I don t know how battery friendly it will be I m concerned that it may not offer the option of turning off the GPS when the app has been in the background for a few minutes Other navigation apps I use offer this feature and it should be part of any Nav app I will not have the option of plugging in on the boat so I need to be battery conscious As I said at the beginning I m very pleased with the charts particularly for the price I hope Navionics will work out some of these bugs and missing features because the app has great potential Given their reputation in the Marine industry Navionics should be striving to produce 5 star apps If this requires a price increase for the product so be it I would gladly pay for improved stability and convenience             Nice Charts Annoying Crashes jaberg
Just installed the US and Canada charts onto my I Pad charts look to be very good however the program crashes about every time I use it Should be a great tool when fully developed I think they rushed it to market without working out the bugs John Brumit Tennessee         Navionic for I Pad Hillbilly Crash
Requires many fixes to be truly functional This software appears to have been rushed to market Not what one would expect from Navionics     Disappointed lpf4000
Bought it and it does not have course up Going to try to figure out how to undo this purchase         No Course Up eselgar
I recently purchased a new boat in Seattle and needed to run it 1000 miles up the inside passage to my home in Southeast Alaska I used my IPad 2 with Navionics during the entire trip I plotted the course using the app and was even able to plan some of the more challenging aspects like the navigation of Dodd and Seymour Narrows in British Columbia The built in ability to access tidal and even current information is a wonderful plus as is the photo database of certain towns and harbors along the way I say certain because the photo feature stopped working north of Port Hardy something that perhaps they could correct for other boaters coming north What amazed me about this app though was how well the IPad 2 3G built in GPS worked seamlessly with it I navigated the Wrangell Narrows holding the IPad And in fact the app outperformed the dedicated marine GPS which came with my boat and cost nearly two thousand bucks I truly believe it has made the paper chart all but obsolete For any serious boater I can only say that this Navionics app has stood the test of the Inside Passage and performed wonderfully well After a successful nine day trip north I will carry it out whenever I venture upon the water                     A truly revolutionary IPad app Inside Passage
The need to make it very clear this ONLY works realtime on iPads with 3G capabilities It is worthless otherwise and does not tether to my iPhone as a back up since I dont have 3G Wasted 54 hope iTunes will refund me     Do NOT buy if you dont have 3G on iPad

I liked the App initially The charts are sharp and generally adequate for small boat navigation The program is especially useful in trip planning I have not used it underway so I cannot comment on its usefulness in actual navigation but I do see possibilities in keeping folks ashore in the loop All that is lost however when after two hours of work the program crashes the screen goes black and all is lost Or when you have a route planned saved you think and you are on the next leg and the previous route dies not always but often enough to make me want to throw my ipad out the window I now have a couple of routes which are still in the ipad although I do not know why and several that have been laid out several times and are lost somewhere in the electronic abyss This is potentially a great APP but it is not ready I hope someone is working on it I have contacted the Support and they answered me They were polite but offered no solution        Not ready for Prime Time

The quality and quantity of charts provided by this package presents an excellent value This is marred by bugs and lack of features in the software Bugs As others have said the App crashes frequently while inputing markerseven after manually quitting other apps and restarting iPad This is on my iPad 1 I dont know if the additional memory in the iPad 2 improves this When the App crashes all work that hasnt been saved which seems to require a manual quit is lost Im about to reenter various markers for my upcoming fishing trip for the fourth time I am already braced for the fact that markers I save while out on the water ie Big muskie caught here will be lost during my trip The App needs to do a better job of saving as you go This is particularly important for an application running on an operating system that doesnt really feature or encourage a quit but saves shouldnt depend on quitting anyway Missing Features A way to import and export marker and route files from the desktop DropBox etc I can email a single marker out to myself but not the entire file of markers from a specific lake trio etc It would be great if I could create a CSV or tab file of markers and then import them Instructions are terse Dont know yet I havent tested it out on the water so I dont know how battery friendly it will be Im concerned that it may not offer the option of turning off the GPS when the app has been in the background for a few minutes Other navigation apps I use offer this feature and it should be part of any Nav app I will not have the option of plugging in on the boat so I need to be battery conscious As I said at the beginning Im very pleased with the charts particularly for the price I hope Navionics will work out some of these bugs and missing features because the app has great potential Given their reputation in the Marine industry Navionics should be striving to produce 5 star apps If this requires a price increase for the product so be it I would gladly pay for improved stability and convenience           Nice ChartsAnnoying Crashes
I purchased the previous version of this app so that I could plan routes on my iPad and then sync them with my Raymarine e127 chartplotter Navionics inexplicably removed this function from the new version of the app I now have no use for this 50 app     Plotter Sync Disabled in New Version
App downloads as a shell and lake map info must all be downloaded separately unlike previously versions of this program This would be a minor nuisance if the details would actually download but all I get is a reqesting map progress bar that never progresses Sad Truly sad Next Week I have tried downloading maps again and it is working well and fast now so Ill jump app up to 4 stars Id still like the option to direct install all maps automatically but maybe that file would be too large for even 64 gig iPad i dont know thanks for fixing app R              Does not work
App falsely claims to allow transfer of routes between iPad and Raymarine chart plotters It did wonderfully until they killed that feature in last version and they have no stated plans to bring this back As you can tell from forums we all bought this 50 app solely to create routes on my iPad and transfer to chart plotter That is the single best product claim over the iNavx app It also errors out every time I try to buy an inapp upgrade 50 wasted Back to iNavx which rocks     Falsely claims Raymarine integration
After being very impressed with the US versionincredible detail and useful features being added by the developer over time I was sorely disappointed after plunking down 50 plus for the USCanada flop I expected the same detail in Canada that I enjoy in the States but the difference is night day In fact the charts look identical to the charts in the US version I hope Navionics puts the money I gave them into fixing this issue And by the way they cant even bother to return my emails on the issue Ouch I got burned     Disappointed
This was a great program now it is so confusing hard to use and impossible to do planning Give me back the previous version I am very unhappy     What have you done
Buggy Crashes when route planning Cant adjust transparency of charts User interface akward Wait for fixes        needs improvement
Requires many fixes to be truly functional This software appears to have been rushed to market Not what one would expect from Navionics     Disappointed
I got the icon on my iPad to update this app but when clicked it displayed an error message UPDATE UNAVAILABLE WITH THIS APPLE ID Odd since I have only one AppleID This error prevents the use of the Update All button I looked up the product to see it still available in iTunes and it had an OPEN button like you see when and update is loaded This worked product was updated fine but the next morning I received an email invoice for 5972 Not what I intended nor expected At no point was I told that I had to repurchase the product to download an update Just a warning of caution should you encounter similar     Update triggered another Purchase
Had app for 2 years have done all updates then last week stopped loading Had to delete lost all previous routes and download again New version did not have auto routing which I paid for last year Now it will not even open on my iPad Also noticed all old reviews are gone on this page Whats going onand how can I get it straightened out again        Something is wrong
As an avid cruiserI have used many chart plotting applications both PC based as well as on standalone chartplotters and this app is without question the most intuitive easy to use and fastest to obtain information of any package availableand I love it HOWEVER in my view it is not suitable for real time use as an aid to navigation because it is HIGHLY likely to crash just about every time you use it Earlier versions of the software were considerably more stable and I have high hopes that the problem of frequent crashes will be solved but until it is youll be rebooting oftenthe good news is that even with the frequent crashes this is a VERY worthwhile product              Outstanding AppBUT Its Not Stable
Just installed the US and Canada charts onto my IPad charts look to be very good however the program crashes about every time I use it Should be a great tool when fully developed I think they rushed it to market without working out the bugs John Brumit Tennessee        Navionic for IPad
They seemed to have fixed the random crashes Sometimes the screen is just black Also sometimes I start up and the screen is blank and I have to kill the app and restart The other problem is that sometimes it starts up thinking that I have not downloaded any maps I have to get an wifi connection to get access to the maps A nuisance at best Also it is would be nice if it gave current heading By far the worst part of this app is that there is zero support I have reported all of the above and NEVER received a response to acknowledge that my issue has been received It is an okay app if it was 10 but not 50 or 60     Zero support Not worth the money
The app is simple to use but I have found several instances where Bouys and other aids to navigation are missing Unless you zoom in closely many Bouys are not visible The logic that makes markers appear and disappear is not clear so it is difficult to determine if you are actually seeing all the markers in a particular area I wouldnt recommend using this app without double checking your route on a paper chart rather defeats the use of a digital chart doesnt it        Missing Bouys Markers
Love the maps on the bigger screen also have the apps on my iPhone much easier to see with my old eyes and the GPS positioning and tracking is very accurategreat app              Big Bold Accurate
Im not ready to bring my ipad in the boat but I use this app regularly to study lakes before fishing trips It also works great for ice fishing if youre able to drive on the ice Fantastic maps and fantastic app                 Great
Bought it and it does not have course up Going to try to figure out how to undo this purchase        No Course Up
This is an excellent app with a great user interface Far better than iNavX Please consider adding gpx and kml import capability so that the app can interface with Weather4D and allow route and waypoint sharing This would really improve it Thank you                 Excellent App
I bought this app before learning that the iPad WiFi doesnt have internal GPS I bought an external Garmin GLO GPS Bluetooth device to fix that problem but the Navionics app still shows an incorrect position Dangerous when trying to use when boating Navionics customer support gave a BS answer that stated that they dont test their apps It is fraudulent to sell this product to iPad WiFi owners     Dont buy it
Detailed coverage of most of North America indispensable for boaters planning a trip                 Great App
Sorry raise the number of waypoints after a year Im at the limit Need to download maps repeatedly due to glitches Need additional marker icons Should not have to agree to terms each time you start the app Give me another 100 markers and you could have 4 stars        Limited waypoints map glitches
No thanks Im glad I read the other review Will definitely skip updating this time     99 Subscription
I use this in Maine on the ocean It is a complement to my aging Raymarine chart plotter It is so much easier to plot a route although I am sure if I upgraded the boats electronics I would see the same kind of easy touch screen features for thousands of dollars though I snap it into an Arkon rail mount that accepts the iPad even in an Otterbox Defender Two things would make it even better 1 When underway if you decide to edit a route then go to save it the two boxes are Save Route and Delete Route They are close together and if you arent precise and hit the delete box the route is gone How about a default question box that asks if you want to delete Bouncing around in the real world and editing as you see the actual buoy location is common so this would recognize that 2 How about an option to shift to a Heads Up display orientation Seems obvious and easy but not a feature in any version so far This would help me quickly compare it to my radar display without a mental calculation on direction This App is a great value accurate and easy to use              Great App 2 Suggestions
This app works great with my ipad 2 and my Garmin Glonass It allows me to easily create routes before boating while Im in the water and after a trip I purchased the additional advanced boating app which gives me a fishing function that allows me to focus on specific contours and depths It is an exceptional back up to my onboard chart plotter In addition I Purchased a waterproof case for my ipad My only complaint is that the app for the ipad doesnt the a chart up boat up setting                 Excellent Boating And Fishing App
I used this app to bring a boat from Essex Ct to Portsmouth NH over the new year The boats gps and chart plotter didnt work but I had my IPAD We had charts and handheld gpss but it became apparent after 2 days that this app was just as reliable and accurate as any other onboard equipment we had ever used and the charts The tide and current plots are excellent and we used them to time our transit through the Cape Cod canal I recommend this app to any seasoned sailor My IPAD had 3G And at times we were over 30 miles offshore                 It works great
Found the tide section to be useful Study areas to boat and ports to see along New York and New Jersey                 Sea Cure
Navonics has generally been a pretty good nav program but has always been completely lacking in documentation and theres nobody home at customer support I do like the map synthesis and zooming capability as a course monitoring tool If your iPad or iPhone has a real GPS in it its a reasonable backup for your on board nav system The autorouting addition is useless The only thing it does is turn the route line red if you cant make a direct path between waypoints Well Duh I was led to believe its supposed to FIND a route Does anyone at Navonics have a boat any actually use this software I want my 499 back Those dollars would be better spent stapled to a wall in some bar in the Bahamas     AutoRoute AutoWaste of 500
I used this program with great success everywhere in Puget Sound and the San Juan Islands However after June update the screen is black Speed works fine but chart area is blank What to do              Navionics
Overall an excellent app but some of the depths which appear in the large scale charts in Saratoga Passage and Admiralty Inlet are in the wrong units They appear to be in meters even when feet are selected              Navionics Marine and Lakes USA Canada HD
March 31 2014 530 PM My comments below may be in error or may be reconsideration by Navionics of the impact of their attitude about Legacy versions A new version of Navionics was posted a few minutes ago and SHAZAM it is now working again If it really is a bug that inadvertantly slipped past their programmers then I extend my profound apologies I am willing to convert my reduced rating from one star to a 3 star rating contingent upon the continuing performance of this software But I recommend that purchasers be aware of the problems and decide for themselves as to whether the problems were truly erroneous bug problems vs more intentional inactivation Previous posting March 30 2014 I first purchased the US Canada version a few years ago Although there were a few shortcomings I gave it a high rating Paid 50 for the APP then additional inAPP purchases But now the latest version is inoperable TOTALLY Rather than a proper purchase Navionics now demands an annual subscription and has inactivated all the earlier copies They use a spurious claim that it is because of iOS7 But it was working perfectly well with iOS 7 for the past several months It died with iOS76 There is a cursory comment on their home page claiming it is due to iOS7 This is an outrageous and extortionist way to deal with customers and Apple should confirm that this is acceptable according to their terms of contract I would give is Zero stars if that were only possible My earlier reviews praised this APP But this borders on criminal behavior by Navionics Strongly suggest combination of complaints directly to Navionics and also post lots of notes on all Sailing and Cruising bulletin boards Harvey Karten Webmaster TOGNEWS           Is Update to Navionics APP a ripoff or is it a genuine accidental BUG
I use the app for general navigation and positioning our vessel over subsea targets It works well for that The ipad and a Bluetooth GPS can be readily moved and doesnt require a lot of setup It could use a couple tweeks i think Being able to place and name marks is very handy It would be nice if you could put a range circle on a mark as well It would also be handy if you could measure short distances in yards or fee not just mile or nautical miles              Nice App could use some tweeks
The magnifying glass button is just a repeat of the i button and not only unnecessary but easily accidentally pressed All the other buttons should be grouped together away from the corners and made smaller to reduce the chance of error App still crashes usually after zooming           New interface distracting
Nothing beats the ipad screens the google layer is great on this version              have this on my phone too
Ive owned several versions of this application and have paid for full versions at least twice I just upgraded the app again only to notice that the detail found in my prior version was far greater than this version Now Navionics is asking me for another 55 PER YEAR to subscribe I start my search for a new charting software app today Thanks but no thanks     Why does Navionics think its ok to ding me every year to upgrade the application
Im afraid the latest change requiring a 99 annual subscription has made this very good program worthless in my opinion Please offer a lower cost option that will allow me to get updates as I need them In the meantime I have switched to other navigation programs     Subscription Only Updates
These are good maps Biggest issue for fishing use is the limited zoom factor Contours with 1 foot increments are too tight at max zoom Need to be able to get in closer Love the syncing between iOS devices I added the routes option Works well and easily It would be nice to be able to hide Waypoint icons Also a tap to magnify feature would be good              Good app Needs some improvement
I recently purchased a new boat in Seattle and needed to run it 1000 miles up the inside passage to my home in Southeast Alaska I used my IPad 2 with Navionics during the entire trip I plotted the course using the app and was even able to plan some of the more challenging aspects like the navigation of Dodd and Seymour Narrows in British Columbia The built in ability to access tidal and even current information is a wonderful plus as is the photo database of certain towns and harbors along the way I say certain because the photo feature stopped working north of Port Hardy something that perhaps they could correct for other boaters coming north What amazed me about this app though was how well the IPad 2 3G built in GPS worked seamlessly with it I navigated the Wrangell Narrows holding the IPad And in fact the app outperformed the dedicated marine GPS which came with my boat and cost nearly two thousand bucks I truly believe it has made the paper chart all but obsolete For any serious boater I can only say that this Navionics app has stood the test of the Inside Passage and performed wonderfully well After a successful nine day trip north I will carry it out whenever I venture upon the water                 A truly revolutionary IPad app
Agree with HJ Karten Except I feel by the time they add true chart plotting features it wont be an upgrade but they will have a brand new version which will cost 4050 dollars again like they previously did People who run this mobile division of Navionics is definitely not the same people who run their marine division     Needs real features
This app is AWESOME It saved us 5000 We were going to get a Gamin system installed on our boat but a friend told us about this app and now we dont have to spend that money Its an awesome app and easy to use Thanks                 Yvonnesrealestate
This app is simply amazing and I have used it from its inception The price will seem high but when compared to navigation programs for any other platform it is cheap especially considering that the charts are included That being said doesnt erase my annoyance at their high school marketing tactics First I had to rebuy the new version and then I had to make in app purchases to make it fully functional It felt like I was playing a video game and had to buy extra lives to continue play If they would just grow up and price the app with the inapp purchases included I would gladly pay and feel good about doing so instead of feeling like I was being played The app works perfectly on all my devices and on my boat the iPad has become my go to navigation screen It sits right next to my main chart plotters but often on a different scale I love the long very visible course vector as it allows you to helm directly to a point without setting the autopilot Since I sail in Washington States San Juan Islands this is a big benefit as you try to helm a course as straight as possible with multiply islands and shoals between you and your destination The first time I used the autorouting feature I was more in awe than when I first saw my car on a moving map on my first GPS This feature is a bit beta in that it can crash easily while manipulating a route in automatic mode I suggest you save the route immediately upon its successful creation Modify the route only after it has been saved Of course as other reviewers point out the instructions are poor and saving the route is far from intuitive There is no save button since its supposed to save automatically but it wont save a newly created Current Route until you switch to another route or press Go and then Stop I save the route by switching to another route and it when you confirm you want to change routes it will safe the newly created route to your archives Failure to save will result in the loss of your entire route and modifications if the app should crash Creating a route can be fickle but dont give up One of the things that caused me grief is that the default draft of your vessel will be too large especially for my waters Update your Boat Settings before creating a route and set the Draft to a water depth you can live with The app equates this Draft to a minimum water depth when creating or modifying a route in automatic mode I am often in less than 20 feet of water so to make the routes calculate I set the Draft to 12 feet The only disadvantage to this is that the autoroute will use this Draft to cut the corner around a point or obstacle a little too tight for my safety preference It creates the route correctly using the12 foot depth but once out of a dredged entrance or shallow passage I would prefer a less risky journey Its easy to change once the route has been created and saved by simply dragging the waypoints that autoroute created further from the obstacle The most annoying feature of the app is that it uses your current location to start all activities When you are aboard your boat this is a small problem but when you are 300 miles inland doing some planning or just playing around with the app to learn how it works this renders the app almost useless For example when you try to create a route to a point you select it starts downloading maps for 300 miles of land and tells you the route wont calculate Duh You have to wait until it downloads 300 miles of nothing before you can modify the start point Even when abroad your vessel this can be a pain since you cant plan a route for say Day 3 of your voyage without dealing with this issue The solution of course is that Navionics should allow you to input both your destination and your start point Im sure this will be fixed once pointed out to the excellent customer service of Navionics I have contacted them several times and they have always responded however as they have grown more successful they are not as responsive as they used to be This app deserves 5 stars and if it were not for the childish in app purchase requirements or a few bugs in the new autorouting feature I would have gladly given the higher rating Happy cruising              Most Used App Aboard
Using this on a fishing trip with an iPad 2 and a Dual brand Bluetooth GPS receiver The map data is great and it works well while the boat is moving but the position will not update if moving under about 10 mph I have to kill the app and relaunch it once the speed is over 10 mph or it will not work If the bugs get worked out this will be a great tool           Has troubles
I was dissapaointed to find out that some Canadian Charts are missing We cruise in the North Channel a lot and there is no detail for some of the area because Navionics uses vector charts and the Canadian Hydrographic Society does not have vestor charts for these area just raster Be careful if you cruise the North Channel and Georgian Bay           Missing some Canadian Charts
