The sounds and kits are brilliant This thing is very intuitive to use I m only a couple days into it and can t determine any way to use this as an app to incorporate with my music but it presents new thoughts and ideas on the process and is fulfilling to use Fun ammus
I love the pattern construction in this app but frankly I hate most of the preloaded kits In my opinion they just don t sound very good I deleted ALL of the included kits with the EXCEPTION of 2 that do sound good I then downloaded six of the GREAT SOUNDING cloud kits Now the app size sits at 542 MB What the hell I guess I will have to live with it using that much resources but my rating would be an easy 5 stars if I did not have to deal with so much use of space Great Design but size bloat remains Ben Efitofadoubt

It s true although I have no child and have no desire to sire a child into this world I love this app and would sacrifice my only child to have access to it Fortunately it only costs 9 99 plus tax for use on all my iOS devices well iPads only I can load all of my own samples into it create complex rhythms add random triggering parameter make every sound in a different time signature What is not to love I would sacrifice my only child for continued use of this app Chimona Chimea

Updated June 2017 As my original and first update review show I think Patterning is incredible One of the best iOS music apps ever it keeps getting better I had to update again to say how much of an extraordinary addition Cloud Kits sharing is Truly makes this app a must buy Deserves 6 stars Updated June 2016 I will keep my original review below because it all remains true except that after this last update there aren t enough superlatives to do the app as it now justice The only drawback with Patterning was the lack of a sample audition feature but the latest update brought that and more to the app With imports and audition you can make any kind of kit you want in minutes especially if you have some good samples Patterning allows you to sketch out a groove quickly to get the recording process going but it has such great versatility and editing features you can polish the track up in very creative ways Using the probability feature and some dynamics you can even construct natural sounding fills and jazzier type playing Unreal a must have for the iOS music producer Original review This app is essential to iOS music producers in my opinion It brings together so many smart ideas and useful features in a streamlined interface From changing an individual drums pitch volume probability etc to having multiple step sizes in the sequencer Patterning makes drum tracks sound detailed alive Importing your own samples to make custom kits is easy and with the right sounds you can make some extremely realistic drum tracks Update Congrats to the devs for the App Store Best Of Award nod Patterning was the must get music production app of 2015 and the fact that it was in a field of so many excellent apps this year is saying something huge Essential to anyone who uses iOS to make music for fun for profit or for whatever An incredible reimagining of the standard drum sequencer essential JRSIV1975

This app is the real deal The ease of importing samples from Audioshare makes me want to use this app immediately The song mode time line is well done and helps to visualize a finished song The automation execution is intuitive and copying automation parameters is easy and awesome Different number of steps for different samples in the same pattern is a major plus There are so many great features in this app I love it I am going to go back to using it right now Song creation tool not a toy drum machine
As much as I love what this app can do if I cant synch it to Auria I cant use it I really hope this problem will be addressed soon for now I can listen to great loops I make but do nothing with them Wont synch with Auria
Glitchy worked fine for a bit Crashed and wouldnt load Hours and hours wasted on creating drumkits Had to uninstall Opens now but pretty much useless Beat notation that I didnt pattern into it just randomly play and I cant delete Have to start a new drumbeat And I have NOT upgraded to iOS Changed my opinion real quick
I love this app to death I very very rarely pay for apps and this one did not disappoint It is more than a drum machine So much more This is a full on musical instrument We live in a great new age and apps like this are the best example of this greatness If you have any experience with drum machines at all this tool will open up the gates of heaven for you If you are not experienced you will master it in minutes THIS IS NOT A TOY Get it and you will love it THE BEST
This app is awesome in so many ways but it has a glaring omission there are zero ways to export audio or midi files The only workaround to get an audio file is to manually record into an app like Audioshare using inter app audio or Audiobus Getting a perfectly cropped loop using this method is pretty tedious in my experience so far I will gladly update my review once some kind of export option is added No Export Options
It was easy for me to get up running I enjoy being able to explore weird new rhythms The included effects are basic and sound great The included samples are wonderfully diverse and delicious I would like to see adjustable cycle duration for Euclidian Mode and the ability for the patterns to transmit note numbers Otherwise this app is perfect Patterning makes perfect use of iOS and the touch screen to make music Unique workflow awesome sounds versatile

Among the most impressive useful bits of audio software Ive ever used It satisfies a huge gap in my sequencing capabilities one that Ive attempted to overcome by developing myriad maxmspreaktor patches none of which come close to the depth and power present in Patterning The capabilities here are on par if not beyond the recent Buchla polyrhythmic generator 252e A unit which costs 2500 Im amazed and so grateful for such capabilities on my iPad Absolutely musthave app for any iOS musician Pure Class

I hate drum programming Its a long tedious process thats just not great fun for me Now I can put together beats as simple or as complex as I like with human sounding velocity control I can import my own samples for any drum sound I like and its all simple and intuitive When it comes to drum programming Im lazy because I dont like it But now it sounds like I put hours into it Fun Easy
I have just about ever recent drum machine available for IOS and this is my new favorite Great interface Even better workflow This workflow is very simple on the surface wihich leads to patterns literally taking 5mins and then from there u can tweak deeper til your heart is content Using this to play snippets of songs or phrases There is a lot of polyrhythmic potential here also great work I found my drum machine of choice love that u can load your own samples and dont have to buy premade drum sample kits if u dont want to altho I will buy anything they release for this thing its great 10 dollars well spent cheers 2 u My New Favorite Drum Machine

Do not hesitate for a moment This is a drum machine perfected Such a well thought out instrument a joy to use I love drum machines and own many but I cant say I enjoy programming them especially software drums Patterning is so intuitive and fun to play that it keeps drawing me back in All my polyrhythmic dreams are coming to life Plus it effortlessly connects and syncs to my hardware setup and even allows for on the fly improvising and beat creation Adding your own samples is a breeze Im in love Easily in my top 5 iOS audio apps and will probably get more use than any of the others PATTERNING MY MIND
wow this app is stunning to use and look at the drum kits are very good and unique i love the fact that pattern parts can play backwardsforwards or my fave pendulumeach past has so much independent control it is amazing is there not audiocopy such great results this app is worth the cost not to mention i feel like capt picard making some crazy interstellar beats on risa or 10 forward beautifulexcellent drum kits

Ok I read all the reviews and watched the promo videoI liked what I saw so I bought the app It is a very cool concept easy to work with Create drum patterns quickly even using your own samples be off running creating the perfect drum track to your next hit EXCEPT for one problem NOT ENOUGH DRUM TRACKS There is only 8 Do the Math 1 Kick 2 Snare 3 Closed HiHat 4 Open HiHat 5 Cymbal 1 left 6 Cymbal 2 right 7 Ride Cymbal 8 Cowbell you always need more cowbell So you have used up the 8 slots ButWhat about the Toms At least 3 of them 4 of them would be perfect Ermtheres no more slots for the toms Ok you say Just copy the drum kit switch out the cymbal slots with toms and save as a different name Here lies drawback number 2 You have to copy each every individual drum patterndrum slot ONE drum piece at a time Time consuming Talk about an inspiration buzzkill This is an example of technology getting in the way of creative momentum The whole idea of this new concept of creating drum tracks with this app is to make it easy effortless and quick Which is its major advantage Throw your fingertip around the onscreen pie and you have a drum pattern in seconds if not a few minutes But if you run out of individual drum piece slots the quick thrill is gone and possibly that initial spark of inspiration along with it App Update Suggestion Give us more drum slots to access all at once for those of us that are used to working with professional drummers that could afford to buy a FULL extensive drum kit please allow us to copypaste every drum slotpart that makes up the drum pattern all together instead of one at a time If this app had these inclusions the star rating would be 2 stars higher in my opinion One MAJOR drawback

I own a lot of drum synth and audio processing apps and it takes something special to incorporate an iPad app into my production workflow Patterning is one of those exceptions Solid interface incredible capabilities and runs great on my iPad 4 With multi channel midi out its easy to sync with a daw and be triggering midi notes for drums Its not Elastic Drums but this is a sample player not a synth Ive not seen polyrhythmic sequencing options like this on many software platforms and in many ways it reminds me of the capabilities of a Make Noise René HIGHLY recommended tool Im already using almost daily Very impressed

First of all thank you so much for making such an inspiring app its fantastic There are however some things which I believe would increase functionally Its all just my opinion however add groups for track variations rather than a1a7 as individual variations cluttering the sequence view having a single expanding A box with all variations would allow for easier more tidy structuring Even more than just for variations having it to separate different song parts would be great for song writing add a blank kit with which can make our own maybe its already there and I just dont know but it certainly would be useful add brownian motion this is one of my favorite sequencing methods in which each step has a 5050 chance of either going forwards or backwards it makes for a more groovy random sequencing style Another option is 333333 for forwards backwards and retrig pattern export to have the individual patterns as audio files for use in other appscomputer add a mini recorder with which to record your own samples this one is a bit more hefty but it would lead to a lot of added functionality I love making drum its from things around me glasses tables etc Having a small sample recorder would allow me to quickly capture these sounds and jump back to sequencing Thanks for the release it is a fantastic app and really poised to become my favorite iOS drum machine Just a few quirks from perfection
I really like this app a lot but theres no ability to export as an aif or wav This seems like pretty basic functionality that should have been incorporated into a first release Im keeping my fingers crossed that this is in the release pipeline because then this would definitely be a five star app Cant export to aif or wav

It has been said that the rate of change in the interfaces and technology of electronic musical instruments is so rapid that the development of virtuosity in any one of them is essentially impossible Most of course arent worth the time This is an instrument that is worth your time Every time I use it it gets deeper Either for sequencing or performance the ability to go somewhere new is always present If there were only more hours in the day This is a seriously deep instrument
Patterning is very enjoyable to use and feels like a real interesting tool I am invigorated by it to work musically with the iPad which is fun And fun is FUN Specifically the Auto Rotate feature allows for interesting permutations and the ability to add or remove beats from each cycle of the pattern is very rich in terms of complexity that can be quickly generated Its straightforward but it doesnt constrain you away from the odd or unexpected Thats ideal in an instrument in my opinion Enjoyable and Straightforward but doesnt constrain you away from the odd or unexpected
