The official Peterson Field Guide app, featuring illustrations and commentary by Roger Tory Peterson. Peterson Birds of North America is a must-have for nature lovers, backyard birders and serious ornithologists. Easily identify birds by comparing ...
I understand that not every app needs a super polished user interface But this is absolutely horrendous It isnt even an easytouse interface It feels clumsy and not thought through Nothing matches style wise fonts and font sizes seem to be chosen at random colors dont match and worst of all it doesnt use native iOS UI elements like dropdown lists or navigation elements It runs sluggish on my iPhone6 Id hate to see it on an iPhone 5 or 4S It is also not optimized for the iPhone 6 and the icons are not Retina optimized Give me back the old version Very disappointed Looking for another app     Ugh Worst update ever
I am an avid birder and use 2 field guide apps regularly Sibleys and Petersons While I prefer Sibleys beautiful art hands down this app has the best layout If only I could combine the two This app is great for quick comparisons in the field This is easily one of the best bird guide apps among many              Cant go wrong
Much better navigation and easy to use                 Much better
Nice app but takes a while to get used to navigating I need something that is fast easy for onthespot bird ID recording           Not quite as user friendly as other bird apps
Slow inconsistent ui Function is a distant follower to form My grandmother could make a better application Im going to try to side load my old version This is awful I have to turn off automatic updates now     Awful downgrade
Used to be a great app but the search by taxonomy causes it to crash Very frustrating Others have confirmed online Also there has been no update in quite a long time Continually asks me if I want to learn whats new despite nothing changing for around 1yr I would not purchase this app there are better apps available     Taxonomy Crash
My favorite feature of this app is that you can download local checklists based on EBird sightings for the US and Canada Of course data is still spotty but you can see abundance week by week throughout the year This is great for trips I also use BirdsEye The last version listed species in the the checklists alphabetically by first name making it difficult to find new birds This version allows listing by family When they allow sorting by last name theyll earn another star I love the detailed information especially on nests but miss the pictures in the old version I havent figured out how to zoom the plates yet              Love the County Checklists
I really like the app it is nice to have all the info without the internet What I would love is if you could export the checklists as a CSV or similar file type Otherwise this is a really nice app              good app
Having bought several birding apps I have found Petersens to be the best It has an intuitive interface and makes bird identification easy even for novices I highly recommend it                 Great App
I gave the previous version of this app last updated Aug 2013 5 stars but this new version is like a parody of a bad app I dont know what UI framework its using but its incredibly ugly and clunky The menu actually stutters across the screen as it redraws on my iPhone 6 and theres no way to close it without selecting something The entire thing is nonstandard and ugly Its so easy to make a beautiful app with standard behaviors using Apples UIKit Theres really no excuse     Now the worst app possible
De gustibus non est disputandum I actually like the recent update For me its more intuitive to use and faster loading I just wish it would let me search by color of the bird since Im not always sure of what group or species a bird belongs to              In matters of taste
It will become my favorite Has some very good features The best quality is seeing all the birds on the pages                 Five star review
Why was this App updated to its current version What feedback did developers read I missed asking for THIS Those was once the best Bird App in the store now it has been reduced to something unnatural Previous version was far superior I hate the blue background and revised navigation Terrible choices made here I hope there is a development track to improve this I have often read reviews defending a way to revert to the previous versions this is my feeling on todays update     Why fix if not broken
First Why change the apps icon I spent 10 minutes trying to locate the app on my phone looking for the icon with the picture of the bird I agree with other reviewers that the illustrations are of very poor quality So far the new app just feels awkward not as functional Please fix whats broken not what isnt     Terrible after Latest Update
While its nice to finally get an update this is now terrible Unusable UI UX Will have to see if I can downgrade     Terrible update
A friend updated to the new version for the iPad and I was shocked when I saw it and will not be updating my iPad until improvements are implemented I agree completely with the prior negative comments Most disheartening is how the bird images on the full field guide pages blur and get cut off when they are enlarged Also the bird images for the individual bird pages are smaller they cant be enlarged by tapping them and less crisp Also any of your own pictures added to the old version will be lost Overall the new version is clunky and an insult to Petersons bird renditions On a brighter note support was responsive and indicates they are working to fix these issues     Update is extremely disappointing
I want the APP that I purchased NOT THIS Its like removing what I bought and giving me something I dont want and would never have purchased in its place What are you thinking Please give buyers the option to reinstall what they purchased     TERRIBLE update
This is a nice app but it crashes frequently Crashes most frequently when trying to enter notes           Nice but
I am incredibly disappointed in the latest update to the Petersons guide Previously one could see not just a specific species but related species on the same screen much like in the beloved book Now one can ONLY see one species at a time with no opportunity to compare to related species How do I restore the prior version     Awful Update Lost comparative drawings
Navigation is somewhat easier than the previous version but its more clunky and slow feeling They need a UI person to do some design work or stick to iOS conventions The best thing about the app are the plates for easy comparison Info is good Aside from clunkiness its a great app The old app icon was much better IMO           Best bird app but
I am enjoying the guide tremendously I use it all the time I especially like the features that allow me to download site checklists for local hotspots from the Peterson Guide website and to add my own photos to each species page Please make it possible to add Ruddy Duck to the life list I saw one today                 Wonderful Features
I love this app I am able now to identify l the birds I see now It is especially awesome with the latest retina display an new user interface Well done                 Awesome
Works well A fast way to access the contents of the Peterson Guides still the best illustrated guides available              Works well
I love the app Im a beginner in bird watching and its been great to know whats going on at my feeder my only suggestion would be to in the next update add photo ID Recording I D              Great
This app has a lot of bugs now 1 Window pops up with 3 options and has to be constantly dismissed 2 App crashes right after selecting an icon of a bird category to view most crashes I found were at the bottom of the icon page Since this has been happening for months I suggest you not buy it until it is fixed This used to be a pretty good app but since the support is so lax I recommend not buying     Started Crashing
This app is decent but information such as name changes remains unupdated and a recent update has left me with a less intuitive app that crashes frequently Fixes and updates have been infrequent and insufficient Again this app is Decent but I expected more from Peterson and so I must also say that it is disappointing in many ways        Needs updates and fixes
This new update is jarring Although the new search is nice the overall design upgrade is terrible Please bring back some of the eye candydesign consistency of the previous version        Once Great Bird App
Real rating probably 35 stars Marking this one star to warn updaters about regression Version 1 had a confusing interface but was content rich and after a while you could overcome the interface and enjoy the app Version 2 changed the interface to be maybe slightly better but still not great But its noticeably more sluggish and the contents appear to have been reduced If nothing else the quirky warbler undertail patterns page is no longer present     Previous Version was Better
This update was not a success The user interface is really awful content is poorly organized The visual design is clunky and under appealing Its messy looking and needs a lot of simplification     Really Bad User Interface
The app crashes every time I try to add a note        App crashes
Confusing and unintuitive to navigate through anything but the slides Definitely watch their tutorials There is a ton of information in here if you can find it Along with this app I use Sibleys iBird and BirdsEye NA Petersons excels in showing you the pages of the great Petersons Field Guides books so you can see many similar species next to each other on the screen              Slightly confusing
UI is still atrocious No quick scrolling to the first letter of a bird in the life list instead you have to scroll through every single species Thank goodness I had version 1 backed up to my computer and I was able to downgrade back to a usable version     Worst update ever continued
Always loved the way my Peterson guide showed similar species together Easy to navigate and filled with everything you need                 The best birding guide out there
So glad you could quickly replace version 2 with 21 The index function makes searching a breeze and with much better graphics              Much improved
This bird guide is far better than its predecessor in ease of use It is however completely riddled with spelling and other grammatical errors Some of the spelling is so bad as to undermine the credibility of the book If they cant bother to spell check are the facts on the species reliable Its main competitor Sibley is much more professional        Better than predecessor
Love this update Much easier to navigate and finding and managing lists is tons easier I also like the nest ID feature If it was in the previous version I missed it Ive always enjoyed the bird call feature and icy is now much easier to find I think this is a well thought out update                 Great update
The screen is to crowded I would like to zoom closer to the bird photos     What Happened
Frustratingsighting Im trying to add a sighting and edit a sighting It just doesnt work Once a sighting is saved I cant edit information Frustrating Checklist List I cant seem to set up a new checklist for a new location                 As good as the book BUT
Great app but it has a tendency to crash frequently iPhone 5 iOS 711           CRASH
I like the new update I always had trouble finding stuff in the old version I liked it but I could never remember what the icons meant and it took several taps to find what I was looking for Now everything is right there Map bird call or song my favorite feature of the app related species that you can easily tap on anathema just hit the back button to go back to the original bird you were looking at info on the bird The pictures are a bit fuzzy closer up but field marks are perfectly visible non zoomed and thats the point of the Peterson system I have never used the sightings feature but it looks much more integrated now Ill have to try it Great update imho                 Update is easier to use for me
I like having this app on my iPad but lost my life list during the recent update Info assured me I wouldnt but I did I keep a working list in my field guide so I could reconstruct it Ive now created additional lists But if I accept the pending update will I lose everything again              Peterson Field Guide App
This app used to be great Now I cantwont use it anymore The Taxonomic Sort problem makes it useless to me Ive emailed and tweeted the problem multiple times to Peterson and theyve yet to respond It crashes when you change the sort to Taxonomic on iPhone 5 Disappointed        Crashes
This app really is not an improvement over the previous version I liked Petersons over other app because my bird list was mine as in privacy Apparently it is still private but most of the user friendlyness is absent Ill be going back to pen paper for my bird list     Try again
Wish I would have saved my money not laid out like the free app at all Also not very user friendly Please make this more like the demo plus the bird picture quality is poor     Not like the demo
I recently moved to a new environment rich with wildlife I have learned so much from this app and find it quite exciting to identify an owl or a migrating duck with certainty by complementing what I see with what I hear I downloaded several bird ID apps and compared them The Peterson Birds was the best in my opinion                 I am learning so muchI love this app
Wow I still love Petersons paintings and field guide to birds and was extremely happy with the previous version What happened with the update The plates are great but when you zoom in they are horribly fuzzy and low resolution making that function silly This function also awkwardly zooms to a section of the page cuts off part of the bird then reimages and finally you can see what you zoomed in on kinda Now you can select a species which opens a new window to view the information and details Again highly awkward The illustrations are fuzzy at best and weirdly cropped for detail youll see what I mean not easy to view Furthermore in the field accidental touches on the iPad are causing species to open into the detail pane she I dont want them too Again Awkward The details page seems hastily put together and segmented My eyes are confused and its not easy to decipher at first what I want to look at I really like the much simpler version previous The illustrations are great still but what happened with this update I feel like I got a whammy        I love Peterson but what happened with this last update
Love the update it makes looking for birds much easier as well as making sightings But I wish they had left the pictures of the nestseggs as this was one of the main reasons I got this app              Great
Love this app better than the rest and the new update is awesome                 The Best Bird App
I am really enjoying your app Especially the checklist feature I have given up on Audubon as they cant seem to get it right You have Its nice to have each bird sighting listed under one grouping so I dont have to scroll through a whole year of sightings Took a bit of a learning curve but once you figure it out it makes sense Thank you for getting it right                 Thank You
Now here is one great update All of the information from the paper field that was not included is now here So much more useful information And the app is easy to navigate Thanks so much to the developers You have scored big time in this household                 Love this update 52015
