2015 version just doesnt work Must log in every time you look at a new article Often hangs Completely unusable     Not worth the money and its free
I thought they had fixed the loading problembut now it is worse For the last week I have had to uninstall and reinstall the app to get the daily addition to load Why cant you fix this I dont have this issue with the WSJ or NY Times or other news feeds     Thought they fixed it
There are far better newspaper apps This one is an embarrassment Buggy and unstable        Buggy and Unstable
Look forward to bringing this app up every morning Only once has it failed to load properly Thats as close to perfection as you can get Code writers deserve a raise Your digital print home for the Giants As 49ers Raiders and Warriors Cannot believe how crappy Sacramento Bee sports has become The paper now dedicates an entire FULL paragraph to recapping Giants games How BS is that                 Best App Out There
The team at Chron needs to look at a few other online papers to see how its done Frequent freezes that require restarting the app that annoying car ad that springs up unbidden content from the print edition that is unavailable online no ability to zoom in on comics making at least one of the Sunday strips unreadable failure to use links effectivelyon the whole its amateurish Of course a paper that still wastes space running Peanuts is clearly stuck in the pastor doesnt know how to end a contract Meh Update Dear Abby random repeats continue to annoy        And were this close to Silicon Valley
SF CHRONICLEGREAT APP FOR EVERYONEEVEN simpletons LIKE ME Keep up the great work              SF CHRONICLE EVERYDAY
Editions load very slowly if at all This used to be a great app With each new version it seems to get worse Buggy crashes wont load When my subscription is up unless things have changed I probably wont renew     Havent been able to load newspapers for 2 days
So buggy too many annoying ads Hardly any content is listed in the column you have to use the search feature to find articles that are in the Chronicle but not listed Fix this thing please     The Worst
Being able to read the full paper on my iPad is cool but this program is very buggy If you like the Chronical and have patience then it will be OK for you     Buggy but works
New York Times still sets the standard              Still needs work but improved
I love that I can use it on vacation Also we live in the country and our paper copy of the Chron is an early edition that doesnt have the previous days late sports stories and scores I can get them from the app                 Love this app
I think this all is a very pretty way to look at the paper and its very easy to navigate but I have to complain about all the ads I have to click through on a PAID APP That being said I really enjoy the crossword puzzles which is a VERY nice puzzle app and the photos are stunning on the iPad           Still has some bugs and annoyances
This app has come a long way but still has room to improve Plus many more photos in certain articles vs print rarely crashes When it does I close the app iOS double click home iPad button and flick the app up and away preferable to print edition in many ways as I can ignore articles I am not interested in Minus still forces me to provide my credentials at times why news from around the globe often points to an empty page and data in table form is messed up not aligned overlapping data many other small glitches A year ago I would have given it 2 stars and it is now up to 3 stars           Getting better
Once I get past the loading it works ok Usually it takes a long time to load and then if you switch to another app you need to reload all over again It shouldnt have to update edition data unless asked to by the user that often takes way too much time or hangs up while trying even though you want the same edition you were previously reading I like the interactive crossword        Still needs improvement
Ive appreciated the ability to explicitly download a copy for offline use which seems to work better than some other iPad apps when offline Safari for instance will attempt to reload anything I download whenever I switch back to it and subsequently sabotage the content making it absolutely worthless for a wifionly iPad like mine during a crosstown commute The SF Chronicle app works fine I just go to settings and launch the download a couple of minutes before I leave the house and then its all there in a reliable way Ive found navigation within the app to be just fine with the content Ive already read to be clearly distinguishable in the left navigation area I can march through each edition using that left nav list              Works well including offline
I was a longtime 20 year print subscriber and switched to the iPad plus Sunday print option at the beginning of the year But wont you miss the coupons the rep asked Sadly and illogically the iPad version has made me think less of the paper overall 1 the app has always been buggy and crash prone much more so lately recently I received five the app has unexpectedly quit would you like to send a report notifications in quick succession having to restart the app each time Nope didnt even finish that issue 2 The ads are irritating in their delivery and seemingly being served more often Theyre doubly irritating for me since I dont drive and more than half are car ads Funny though for the amount of times I see any of the ads I cant remember the vendors 3 I cant tell who the columnists are eg Jon Carroll and Leah Garchik by scrolling the headlines on the sidebar 4 I should like framework section but I dont and it seems like it never updates On the plus side 5 I think the person who writes some of the captions for the Photos of the Day is a genius 6 I love the cost savings and not having piles of newspaper to recycle and its forcibly cured me of tearing out articles to save for later I dont think the Chron truly understands that an app isnt an afterthought This app is bad enough that I should return to the print version But I probably wont Im more likely to slowly find Im reading the newspaper less and finally abandon the subscription altogether Thats sad        Harder harder to like this app
Easy and enjoyable to use                 Love this app
Pleasantly surprised to get an email from staff suggesting new update would fix my problems and it HASNT Still fails to load several mornings a week Ouch        Disappointment 1000
Completely useless app they should take a look how other newspapers work and fix issues Gets stuck in endless downloading loop     Needs improvement
How many crashes Too many crashes One time after restarting there were no banner ads on the bottom of the screen Nice Then it crashed and the ads were back Sigh I know you gotta have the ads but maybe it would be possible to do it in a less obtrusive way        So many crashes
Slow More often than not you cant even get in Then if youre in for more than 10 minutes itll kick you back out for no apparent reason Did I mention its excruciatingly slow Find a big bag of patience every time youre about to use it because inevitably youll get enormously frustrated     Buggy beyond belief
This has a lot of problems It crashes repeatedly Formatting of text is screwy at times Especially photo captions A real embarrassment in this high tech community I was thinking of subscribing but will have to pass     Buggy and Crashy
I have to reinstall the Chronicle often to get this app to load no problems with other newspaperswhat gives If this is a new improved version it still is the worst newspaper app on the internet     Terrible app
From the time I loaded this app I have enjoyed reading it like a real paper The visual is still out of sync with the screen Titles run out of the screen The Blogger section freezes mor than not I dont even stop at it anymore I love the content and the amount of articles I would like to see more clarity per section Similar to the physical paper Section 1 doesnt carry articles from other sections Otherwise I read this every day except Sunday I still love the feel of the paper        SF Chronicle
Cant sign on even After reading how often it crashes I dont think Ill bother trying anymore     Terrible
This app needs a complete overhaul Simplify it take all the silly graphics like sliding sections out make it readable Look at NYT or WSJ     Over designed slow hard to navigate
It is a very slow and clunky app Stories are slow to load Very little is seen in any screen to facilitate selection of larger story Moving between sections is awkwardly designed This is the best that can be done in premier high tech region     Clunky app
Crashes regularly possibly due to ad content        Still unstable
Amongst other shortcomings the inconsistency seems to be the most annoying at this point Knowing that this method is the future for newspapers I hope the problem is corrected soon        Consistently inconsistent
I cant believe SF Chron is long as app due to its poor performance Updated 8215 Despite surveys articles about improving iPad app the app remains buggy Maybe its the iPad 2 that I have but I suffer through frequent crashes when trying to read paper I rarely use app wonder why SF Chron retains production     Performance is worsening not better
I get the latest news everywhere I go                 Staying informed
So Cancelled a previous version because it locked up an refused to recognize my password Also zero tech support e mails go unanswered Now new version same story Also terrible that you download the paper get on a plane and half the stories in the table of contents require an Internet connection to read Combine that with very thin content the Chronicle runs many stories three times to make it look fatter The local stuff is insanely biased politically and reported with zero insight or intellect A bad app for a bad newspaper     Just awful
They seem to have fixed the issue of persistence or lack of it Much more reliable now each time one opens it              Works much better now
If the newspaper itself would support the app with up to date stories and articles it might not be so bad Unfortunately many of the stories may be stale and old news The app itself works OK most of the time where the support chooses to place the stories not so much     Poor Support
I have a number of newspaper apps and this app is by far the best Easy to navigate and use I have poor vision and this app allows me to set print size making it easy for me to read Thanks for a great app                 Best news paper app Ive seen
Apart from crashing on a daily basis it has no added value above the printed paper They have not improved on the app since it was introduced Apparently digital media is not a priority     Lousy App
Every day the app crashes and I have to load it from start Works ok after that but what a waste of time Too bad because the app when it works is good and easy to use With all the computer geniuses in SF youd think the Chron could get one to fix this thing        Crashes Daily
I love the Chronicle and have been and continue to be a print subscriber The app is worse than it has ever been before it constantly shuts down on its ownI have rebooted my newish iPad so its not that Please eliminate the bugs once and for all     Fix the Bugs
I subscribed to home delivery partly for access to the digital version The app accepts my signon takes me to the front page wont load a story then takes me back to signon saying my subscription has expired Besides that its very annoying to select a section then find the stories presented are all different Needs a lot of professional work     Full of bugs
Look at the Santa Rosa Press Democrat App Easy intuitive and they publish the bridge column I was ready to go digital but cant because the SF Chron cheats the digital subscriber        No Bridge Column
I log in and if Im lucky it will show me the front page but if I tap to read a story it takes me back to the log in page validate your subscription Its worthless If I could give it no stars I would     Cant even open it
I have to delete the app a least once a month when it freezes Seems to happen most often when I use the section navigator Each time I reinstall the app I have to re log in              Keeps crashing and freezing
This app is balky and unreliable and the content takes forever to load if it ever does My greatest irritation though is reserved for the dysfunctional subscription and login process I recently switched from paying through Apple to buying a digital subscription Bad idea The digital subscription requires that you link your login to your subscription address which resulted in my account getting mixed up with another account at the same address The app seems to require a separate iPad loginpassword but the app rejects that login every time before allowing me to look at the news anyway which then takes forever to load This app and the digital subscription process is in desperate need of a complete rework Wish I could have my money back     Waste of time waste of money
Their login process is very poorly documented and buggy and you can only resolve it by phone they dont respond to email inquiries Well they finally got it so you can sometimes read the paper away from an Internet connection But it still reformats the articles as you watch I can read faster than it formats And the interface is still poorly designed And it still pops up Cadillac ads when you least expect it And the newest update puts all the picture captions and ads over the text and off the edge of the screen Doesnt anyone do any quality control on this app Oh and they lay out comics so it takes forever to read themand I still havent been able to read a Sunday non sequitor in over 2 years because there is just no way to make it legible The Bay Area deserves better They just added access to the SF Chronicle web sitefor an additional fee Pretty cheesy I say No Thanks     Still awful
From the carrousel section selector to the easytoread large print articles this is a fantastic way to read and navigate the daily news Better than the NYT App better than any other newspaper App around I am convinced Been using it for quite some time now and I love it Very user friendly Only negative is that Ive not been able to email an article to out of town friends who arent registered with the paper in this they cut off their nose despite their face                 Absolutely the best newspaper App
Today is the last straw I have often found pages that are balky to open and to close Also often have to wait a long time for an edition to open But today I encountered an advertisement that will not close no matter what I try It is locked up Each time I open the App I get this same full page advert I am about to delete this Chronicle that I paid good money for and wrote it off Never again     Horrible Functionality
I find using this app very painful If I have not had my morning coffee it is a big test of my patience I read three other papers on my iPad and at least 3 magazines so I think I know a little about what the experience should be like I dont like typing this but I have considered canceling this entire subscription many times Specifics it takes forever to load I do run iOS 7 but this has always been a problem It crashes too often Even editorial has put dummy text goes here as a picture caption Headlines get cut off stillWow Lets get it right guys I give it one star because I do still use it and I am able to read the paper with it Save a tree     Ouch
I find the e edition to be an excellent source of current news and special sections Im amazed at how easy it is to find my favorite sections I hope any upgrades do not change this It isnt broken so theres no need to fix it Give my thanks to the team that puts it together They are doing a terrific job Eric After more use I remain a committed reader Nice work Eric I still enjoy reading the Chronicle with this app Keep up the good work Still think its dependable great Would like to see Jon Carrols name on the index to his articles but its not a dealbreaker Great way to read the Chronicle I still like the app              Accessible
The current version of this app is a huge improvement Downloading is a bit slow but that may be my interconnection Considering the number of sections in the paper navigation is relatively easy The number of bugs and crashes Ive found are relatively few again a big improvement over earlier versions I find myself reading the Chron more frequently than in the past           Perfectly Satisfactory
This is the worst News App I have ever downloaded from the perspective of stability formatting and content Heres a list of CONSTANT problems 1 App crashes every day as many as four times while trying to read a single edition 2 App often freezes when trying to navigate from one section to another 3 Content often overwrites the columns rather than being set to fit column width 4 Content is stale ie I see many of the same stories in the App for an entire week 5 This is my favorite They frequently have a link asking for feedback to help improve the iPad App and over the last month every time I clicked on the link which I did many times over the time period it was available you would be directed to a Survey Monkey screen that stated there is no such poll I Pay a monthly subscription for this app and they cant get anything right I have other free Apps USA Today BBC Washington Post etc and they all work flawlessly Pass on this one folks     SF Chronicle App
