Im a subscriber with digital subscriptions but I cant sign in I can sign in the browser using the same email and password     Bad app

Cant download issues unable to connect to server errors Spending better than a day trying to download April 15 to no avail Need to call apple and cancel subscription     Horrible

Nothing for iPhone 6 Plus Come on SciAm Get your act together Very disappointed Generally read other magazines on iPhone paid for this one but disappointed     Disappointed

I cannot reliably download issues and when I contacted tech support the suggestions to resolve the issues were trivial obvious and didnt work nor were they likely to If the response to my questions reflects the caliber of the coders it is no wonder the magazine works so poorly     Doesnt work and no tech support

If youre holding off on upgrading to iOS 8 you might want to confuse to wait if you want to be able to read your magazines     Broken on iOS 8

The app is completely broken under iOS 8 when you try to download an issue it tells you to delete the app reinstall and try again but that doesnt change anything The app hasnt been updated since 2013 and when you click on the link for support for the app you get told the page you are looking for doesnt exist     Completely broken on iOS 8

Every time I try to download an issue I get a message saying cannot connect to server As the publisher has not made a patch to fix this app I will not renew my subscription     Cannot download issues

I have used the app for quite a while now But once the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus were released with bigger screens you could not load this app on them Because the app is iPad only This should be addressed All of my other magazines will allow their app to load on the iPhone or iPad        No Go On iPhone 6

This app is unusable it will not fully download an issue error messages indicate it cannot connect to server at about 25 There is no support link in the app and deletingreinstalling doesnt help The app engine appears to be similar to Sport Illustrated other magazine apps which work fine unsure why Scientific American cant work right ironic as that may seem for a science publication     Unusable

If it wasnt for the content I would give only 1 star Hoping this is rewritten from scratch        Love the content hate the app

Contrary to most of the reviews here the app works great on my iPad The content however has a definite political leftlean to it so more conservative readers may not be too happy This is in spite of the fact that the magazine is based on and exists to disseminate knowledge about hard science     OK App Content no so good

The app appears to have stopped working with the iOS 80 release and does not work with the 81 release today Ive followed all the usual troubleshooting steps and have even reimaged the iPad Its definitely limited to the SciAm app Like others the issue download fails about twothirds of the way through with a server error Im working with their iPad support and hope to get this resolved     App not working

Just started using the app today and was able to download the three most recent issues in under a minute Easy navigation and I like that clicking on an article in the contents links directly to the article no need to flip through pages Zoom and integrated movies would be nice additions for the future                 Works great on iPad Air os 81

How come the premier scientific magazine in the country has got such a crappy app It does not even run on iPhone And how come the digital subscriptions are so much more expensive that the printed ones They might bighead scientists but their IT and Marketing departments have no clue Do they even read these reviews Hello Do I need to print them and FAX you a copy     Unworthy of the publication

This app is an utter disgrace to the great content of Sciam For all the hightech knowledge they have they cant even do an app properly Issues have problems downloading especially larger ones due to a very fast timeout setting You can retry forever and yet still be stuck trying to download certain articles that are large Worse yet all the failed download attempts will result in temporary files permanently stuck in your system I had some 2 GIGs of junk and there is no way to free that space except by deleting the app which caused me to lose all my other downloads as well Their use of interactivity is also laughable just for the sake of showing that an article has interactivity Tapping on the sign reveals an authors 1liner info is a senior editor at Scientific American And sometimes a quick bullet summary of the article It totally makes no sense to hide such trivial information especially when it is placed on a completely empty right sidebar that is otherwise blank Other than such forced interactivity it is no different from reading a PDF Extremely primitive compared to other magazines like WIRED The incompetent team behind the app is also completely oblivious to the complaints of users A simple fix would have resolved the issue yet there have been no updates at all to address it A report to their websites support only resulted in a brilliant reply of asking me to make sure I am connected to the Internet What Dont bother paying for issues on this app unless you are subscribing at their website which also grants you PDF access to their archives Youll probably end up having to read the PDFs     Issue Download Problems Bad Use Of Interactivity

Ive been trying on and off for four days and have yet to get a complete issue Some parts download other keep showing a progress bar that gets about 80 done but then fails This is very frustrating because I really want this on my iPad and the parts of the publication that I have managed to get look great I am shocked that tis publication has released such a defective product     Frustration

This is ridiculous to say the least a scientific publication that cannot release a decent app Since IOS8 Im unable to download read any of the issues all past downloads are gone and whats even worst is that this has been going on for days maybe weeks and they just dont care     Useless on IOS8

This app has been broken for me for months now If it isnt fixed soon Im going to be demanding a refund for my subscription              Fix or refund

UPDATE July 2015 SciAm has still done absolutely NOTHING concerning the app and its inability to download issues The same message still comes up unable to contact server ORIGINAL REVIEW I was excited to try out the great content of Scientific American and how awesome the content of this publication is That is where the positive STOPS I have been having problems downloading a full issue since I paid I have still not received ONE full magazine to read I always get the same error message that the server cannot be contacted Furthermore after spending allot of time on the phone with customer service Who did and offered nothing I am In the same place as I was before Finally they promised a refund which WAS NEVER PEOCESSED BUYER BEWARE You will not receive your product they will not give you a refund and the service is horrible     HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE oh and Really BAD service

Have been a digital subscriber for 10 years and have enjoyed using the iPAD version for a couple of years Cannot get the iOS8 version to work Very frustrating Poor performance and totally useless     iOS 8 incompatibility

This application should be pulled from the App Store It does not function at all It will take your money for a subscription but will not download or display issues The magazine is wonderful but this app is nothing but a ripoff DO NOT PURCHASE     Do not purchase

The present version still does not work properly with iOS8 As described in other reviews the application times out after about a third of the issue is downloaded with the error that the server is not available     Unusable

I am reluctant to write a review since the ratings indicate that few people think highly of this app and the publisher has yet to address the problems I guess they are just too busy I have never been successful in uploading the latest issue of the magazine without difficulty Unlike all other magazines in my News Stand Scientific American does not immediately upload has no direct access has no gateway to my account has no sign in portal and is constantly asking my if I want to be a subscriber and buy the latest issue Please fix this problem I expect Scientific American to have an App that is equal to the quality of the magazine At this point it is a distraction from the experience and I would not recommend this app to anyone who is not willing to spend hours trying to upload the magazine     Frustation

Took days to get the app to connect to their server However I can only download past issues not the latest even though Im a full paid subscriber to the iPad version for years Completely frustrated with the app and have basically given up on it Will download the PDFs from their web site     Great content horrible app

This issue has been a known issue for weeks now as a customer I would appreciate an acknowledgment from the staff that they understand that there is an issue and that something is being done to remedy the situation Ive been reading this magazine since I was a child so I definitely enjoy the content but what good is a subscription that I cannot access Please fix this issue     App not working would like a refund

Rey have finally updated the app for iOS 8 and it does seem to work as expected iOS and the iPad is an ideal environment for Scientific American It is a pleasure to read the magazine Scientific American has a weird pricing mechanism for their magazineiOS app It tends to be expensive and access to the archives is not actually what makes out to be so read carefully National Geographic and Scientific American are the two magazines to subscribe to as they take full advantage of the capabilities if the iPad Hopefully these magazines will continue to explore the possibilities that the iPad affords them              Now iOS compatible

For an app coming from a scientific publication one would expect that it would have this option The print is quite small and I am glad I only am trying out the app with one issue of the magazine        Cant Adjust text size

UPDATE The only solution to this problem is to uninstall the app and go back to downloading the PDF file from the website This is still one of the best science magazines for the scientifically minded layman but the coders have ruined the multimedia experience for us subscribers I have an iPad 3 with 802 iOS When the magazine gets to the very end of the download a message pops up that says Cannot connect to server at this time Please try again later Then the progress bar goes back to the halfway point and sits     Still doesnt work

Digital magazine subscriptions are composed of two components the app and the content Since IOS 8 arrived the app has been broken making the content useless thus rendering the subscription worthless I expect no less than a prorated refund for everyone     Broken

Im echoing the guy who mentioned the font size issue Why read anything on an ipad if you cant enlarge the font And you cant zoom in Please add both to the app At least Discover lets you zoom in Also landscape orientation would be helpful     cant zoom or enlarge font weak

This app does not work anymore It stopped working after I upgraded to IOS 8 When I try to download an issue I get the Cannot Install error Please fix this     IOS 802 fails

Apparently the new subscription model dictates that I no longer have access to issues that I have downloaded during my previous subscriptions They are promoting a 99 year option to allow access to digital archives Thats 5X the price of regular print tablet Im no longer a happy longtime subscriber     New policy no more access to old subscriptions

The app crashes and is slow I was only a ble to get a few of the issues I paid for and lost those when I was told to reinstall the app Customer service is useless and would not refund my money because I was outside the 5 day terms of conditions They did cancel my renewal for me though Thats what they call customer service Buy at your own risk     App doesnt work

I write only to reiterate what others have already written the app does not allow current subscribers to the digital edition to download new magazines Very pathetic     Still not working

I have the written subscription for the last 20 years with a digital tablet version instructions that never worked in the past or currently They are only interested in new digital accounts with same price structure as print They are not interested in current print customers having digital access The setup is so convoluted its like ATTs past billing practices and the subscription is renewed automatically god forbid you opt out What a disgrace and disservice to current subscribers It makes me sick Erik     Total crap app does not work and never did

This is a very good app for an indispensable magazine that could be even better First it needs to be available on the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus Secondly you should be able to pinch to zoom which would be useful even on the iPad Mini By comparison the Vanity Fair app which is undoubtedly the best magazine app out there is available on all iOS devices and supports zooming Other than these two differences the two apps look like they were cut from the same cloth So why not include these two essential features              Need iPhone 6 Plus version

I recently upgraded to an iPad 3 running iOS 8 Since that time I have had nothing but trouble with this app One of my alltime favorite magazines is slowly becoming my least favorite iPad experience I just spent another 3499 for an annual subscription and I cannot access a single issue I tried reinstalling the appno change Downloading begins but cannot finish the same issue numerous other reviewers have shared I am very close to canceling my subscription and moving on to other science publications for which I have considered subscriptions in the past Whats most upsetting is that there is no apparent attempt to deal with this issue I imagine the software developers and the writerseditors for SA are not under the same roof I strongly urge those at the magazine to reconsider the partnership The association is harming the magazines reputation There are a number of other options that offer pleasant iPad experiences my recent subscription to Science News works wonderfully Please respond to the numerous pleas for action     All previous Issues Lost

update was it my imagination or could this app zoom and now it cant SciAm stop playing games and get the thing right Guess Im going back to PDFs I wish I didnt love this magazine so much or I would have voted with my wallet a long time ago New version can FINALLY zoom Working very well on iPad Air and Retina Mini running iOS8 Downloaded last 3 issues and displays perfectly No longer have to download PDFs and read through Kindle app Would like to be able to use this app on my iPhone 6 but at last it works on iPad the way it always should have     Massive improvement

The major reason why I read magazines on iPad is that I can enlarge the text to a size that I can read easily The printed version has such fine prints that I have given up reading Scientific American on paper Now the new update of this Scientific American app does not allow us to enlarge text at all Also we cannot read the articles in Landscape mode We are forced to read the articles in Portrait mode only That makes the default text size even smaller Please let us read in Landscape mode and let us enlarge the text size        Unable to enlarge text
