Symphony Pro is a complete music notation editor that allows you to quickly write and play back music wherever you bring your iPad Open up one of your saved compositions, or begin with a blank page, ...
I am a total nonmusician Took piano lessons in the 7th and 8th grade learned what key is C what is D etc Thats it Not a lack of practising but a lack of physical dexterity I just flat cant play a musical instrument So all these years Ive been cut off from music Oh I could enjoy it as a listener but thats it Then I get an iPad and this app After 2 days I had quadrupled my knowledge of music theory Keys made sense Sheet music is no longer like looking at Arabic script It was like one of those dreams where you realize youre a quantum mechanics expert or you can suddenly converse fluently in Chinese Sure the app has its quirks eg do a copypaste and your half note turns into tied quarter notes but even figuring that out is educational Ive done several projects just sketches of course but Im listening to music I like that I wrote and its fantastic I love watchng the notes go by because they mean something now pp and rit and all mean something What a revelation Ive worked with computers since the punch card days and I havent written or run across any piece of software thats been as good for my soul as this one                 What a Great App
Im a professional musician and compose mainly in finale I wanted to be able to compose on the road and Ive been pretty unhappy with Notion even though lots of people say its the best But Notion is a very slow workflow for me and seems needlessly complicated I love how symphony pro is laid out in such an intuitive way and if you arent writing for big orchestras the huge sound files Notion has are completely unnecessary memory hogs Symphony pro however is super intuitive lets me work faster and most important makes composing on my ipad much simpler which makes me not dread doing it like I used to Worth every penny                 Better than Notion 110 the size
I found the cutcopy function now Now a full five stars                 Great Program
I really wish there was one app that would let you notate and have a variety of export options FINALLY found what i was looking for This is very easy to use for notation and works very well Runs nice and stable on my IPad Air Giving it 5 stars because it works as advertised and did the job i needed it to do Would have to also state it was very simple to use and you can also listen to it Definite a must for a annotation software                 Actully Really Good
Im a Jazz Piano Major at VCU and this app has helped me quite a bit Not only with transcribing and scoring but its helping me lock in some things theory wise that I didnt know before hand even with my sight reading Im getting a little faster the more I score              Pretty great
Now I was very hopeful when I bought this app that it would be decent at best which after using for almost a year have decided that it has somehow fallen short of that lowered expectation Its glitchy at its best absolutely dreadful to useless at its worst The sample sounds for use are reminiscent of midi banks on a knock off brand keyboard from the 90s I once owned Its limited capabilities as a composing program leave little room for a feel of satisfaction or for time well spent but does leave you cursing and at the brink of throwing your iPad into a nearby wall or surface in less than a thirty minute time frame of use     Mehat best
I love the app But I lack the ability to insert measures I am limited to 50 Anyone else having that problem           Great app but
Just the best                 The best
I use it differently than intended I am terrible at reading sheets so I take advantage of the fact that it plays the notes when you tap on them in select mode After I know what it sounds like I can recreate it on the piano This has opened up a whole world of music to me Thanks guys                 I love this
Get this app its a no brainer Its a tiny fraction of the cost of Sibelius and though not as powerful it does a lot of things really well One thing that works great for me as a guitarist I often input music via the guitar fret board and touch screen which is very quick and finish it in Sibelius Piano players can do the same thing However even if youre not transferring it to another program you can probably do everything you need within the Symphony Pro I like that I have this always at my disposal                 Fantastic
I really enjoy using this app It is easy to use and if I need to know a howto the help section is easy to navigate I have not used Notation but I dont plan to I have used Finale before but I like that I can use this via iPad Thanks for a great app                 My ONLY Music Notation Software
Every time I try to copy and paste a phrase it comes out shifted and wrong        Help
There is a bit of a learning curve but It much Truly a spectacular product                 Extremely Thorough
This app does a great job for composing but there is no way of exporting each part without completely composing it as a new piece and copying and pasting the part in All of the details you typically need accidents dynamics etc are there but only certain things are actually done on play back Dynamics dont change at all           Great App with Flaws
The inapp keyboard and fretboards are very handy                 Fullfeatured polished fun to use
I bought this app so I could compose on the road and am delighted by how fast I figured it out and created detailed scores Awesome Please notice you can set the keyboard to scroll mode This is a terrific feature saves tons of time                 Quick and Portable
Wow what a refreshing Notation app this is I am a composer who would like to write as many quality sounding sketches using my iPad Between this app and Notion I am mostly covered They both have their issues but I have to say that Symphony Pro has it mostly right with ease of use and efficiency I have a couple of suggestions 1 find a way to make it easier and less cumbersome to attach dynamics articulations and most other score markings Right now if when you enter a bunch of these markings there are a huge amount of circles floating around the notes that can make it very difficult to edit or change anything Better to use Notion for those markings now because there implementation and execution is easier 2 It would be nice to have a global selection mode to erase any or all markings whether you are looking at notes dynamics tempo or other Its annoying to have to toggle between writing modes in order to delete measures notes articulations dynamics or anything else Um What the heck is up with the MixerEnvelope setting Not sure what that does unless it has to do with the compressor setting which I would rather not use because I like a lot of dynamics in my scores Thanks and keep up the great work I am enjoying how much faster I am able to compose using Symphony Pro instead of Notion              Nice Quick Notation App comparable to Notion almost there
Well allow me to begin by saying bravo I use this software to arrange songs I enjoy for a concert band And it works really well It gives the of the note youre about to place and even lets you listen to Oh I see The playback feature crashes the software I have spent upwards of 10 hours arranging I am the Doctor from Doctor Who for a Concert Band to play After I got past 3 minutes into the song attempting to listen to my work became impossible Well at least extremely difficult Certainly more difficult than it should be This is my most significant issue There were issues with the playback before this like getting rhythms wrong EVERY TIME even though I had the exact same rhythm 2 measures later and it was fine But whatever Its a machine There is one this that should be added and thats being able to send a recording to an email which can be listened to without much hassle Other than this great app              Suggestions
Disappointed with Notion I stumbled on Symphony Pro Simple to use and all the features I need to get basic lead charts done quickly I use Music Studio for input then port midi file to SP better onscreen keyboard in MS but could do everything I need in SP A definite buy this app              Best in Category
After reading the reviews I decided to purchase a copy and I am extremely happy I did As a professional musician and educator symphony pro is easy to use and with my iPad I can write out music anywhere I can then be import the xml file into finale for further editing if necessary or as a midi file into my daw                 Fantastic app
This is a fine app User friendly and obviously designed by musicians I have used Finale for years This app is even better because I have it on my iPad and use it constantly something I can not do with Finale Customer service is prompt and usable Help instructions are not the best and they are working to improve them Great job guys and thanks to Phil                 Symphony pro
This was so easy to use and to produce arrangements Those arrangements were simple to print and to email to other musicians I am most pleased                 Love this
Need different sound for each instrument like tenor sax           Its good but need more souds
I recommend to my students and musician friends Easy to use Note If you change the title of a previously saved file it automatically creates a copy Took a little getting used to that but I appreciate the feature now My only wish is that the Display Options like score and text size would use number values instead of sliders for more precision                 Big Fan of Symphony Pro
I write orchestral works and to get your ideas down you cannot beat this app I was using NotateMe for sketching but found it a bit frustrating when I wanted to add more detail Symphony Pro is the answer Im a Sibeliususer but no matter what scoring program you work with youll love this app Highly recommended              The best app for composing by far
The frustrations of all the other music writing apps I have tried have been corrected in this beautiful app Stress free intuitive music writing Thank you Symphony Pro                 Ahhh you have made music writing enjoyable
I love this app Im a Sibelius user and need something I use while on the go and this app exceed the expectations of what could come from a App Store At its great price and easy usability Ill definitely be recommending it to all my fellow composers                 Does exactly what I need
So far I love this but for teaching marching percussion it would be nice to have those instruments and sounds on it 5 stars if that happens              Great but needs Marching percussion sounds
Im a traveling pianovoice teacher and this was exactly the app I needed to notate my students compositions and arrangements Easy to useintuitive and the help section is also pretty thorough Sometimes it takes me a few minutes to track down precisely how to do something but usually I find the topic right away from the subject headings Fabulous                 Great onthego notation
Love the app actually easier than the Finale I paid a ton for on the computer                 Amazing
I just purchased the software after giving up on an acceptable and affordable solution for the PC I was halfway through coding the song in Sonar X3 but just gave up as the software was too limiting of which they state not intended for serious notation I keyed in by touch an 84 measure religious choir work with SATB voices also with full accompaniment The work had lots of ties rit accel and the list goes on I am not a professional or advanced musician but played trumpet through high school and have sang in a number of church choirs This is great software especially for the smartly chosen affordable pricing It wont do everything but gets pretty close You will not regret this purchase The documentation is thorough enough that by the time I finished my first song I had mastered it                 Really Well Implemented
I should qualify this by stating that this is the only notation app Ive ever used so my only bases for comparison are my 20 years experience as a professional music copyist doing string horn charts for recording sessions lead sheets as well as what Ive read about other apps The features seem to compare favorably to other tablet apps after a bit of a learning curve transferring my pen ink techniques to the apps features Ive been able to function pretty efficiently producing jazz piano charts wa grand staff bass melody lines wa combination of notated chord voicings chord symbols Keeping in mind that for 10 youre not going to get Finale within some workable limits Ive been able to accomplish what I set out to do Cons are 1 ties over bar lines dont carry over line or page breaks the ties appear on the beginning note but dont continue after line break hopefully theyll fix this bug in an update 2 I wish I had more control over horizontal spacing sometimes w8thnote rhythmic figures complex chord symbols come out on top of each other A workaround is to reduce the bars per line at those points but this frequently stretches the layout unnecessarily if I was doing it wpen Id be able to adjust the spacing within a bar to accommodate chord symbols lyrics wo necessarily having to reduce bars per line 3 while italic font is automatically applied for some common text indications such as cresc rit it isnt for some others it would be nice to be able to have more control over this 4 1st 2nd endings are tricky to manage theres no provision for making multiple repeats such as a 123 ending a 4 ending you have to do a kludge superimposing a text notation over the ending s of course it wont be reflected in the MIDI playback which I havent used anyway Overall though for the price Ive found this a very useful app              Welldone useful for the price
Not sure if there is some issue with my setup but my experience with this app was a total faceplant Initially it looked like a great app things are logical simple well thought out However nearly every button or feature I click either doesnt do anything or does not do what I expect Ive spent the last hour emphatically tap tap tapping I can not get dynamics where I want them or even see any indication the app is trying I cant select notes reliably I cant select measures reliably Basically Ive been reduced to a chimplike state of bashing my fingers dumbly around this app with no predictable results Worst yet If you accidentally manage to get music written the app PLAYS IT WRONG I have three bars of music on screen and it plays all three wrong Measure one used to have a dotted quarter note but after a lot of struggle I FINALLY got the dot to go away However the app plays the dotted quarter that no longer exists No matter what I do Now using the note selection tool I am not able to select that note to delete it So it is just wrong now and thats it Worse yet the app doesnt mind the fact that I now have more than 4 beats in the measure It just keeps on truckin like bar lines dont matter Just to lend context I am a professional musician and user interface designer I am pretty convinced the problem is not my inability to work the app but rather the apps inability to work I was really excited about this app ButDELETE While they obviously put a lot of work into it in my opinion it is not at all ready for professional use UPDATE The above issues persisted worsened and I was about to delete app However just on a whim I started a new composition In this new comp features worked substantially better and I was able to compose relatively easily It seems like I encountered some intermittent bugweirdness in the original composition Playback is now as expected and After a few hours of work I have upped rating from 2 stars to 4              Sadly disappointing updated no longer disappointed
I cant find the marching drumline instruments Someone help or inform me on how to get them please           Marching percussion
Can some over there answer me why this app is such a pain in the butt I can score this out with paper and pencil a hella of a lot faster that I can struggle placing one note in your app Why would make such a ridiculous app like this I am sure YOU GUYS thinks its cool but over on this side is useless There is nothing cool or great about it at all I can not spend hours trying to correct or get this app to work right Ill stick with paper and pencilthank you its good enough for John Williams too     What a pain in the butt
As an retiree going back to college to study music I found the notation programs not intuitive and difficult to use without a keyboard for entry While this may not have all of the bells and whistles I am using it almost every day for writing and transposing lead sheets for alto sax Well worth the low price                 Really convenient app
This app is worth every penny Has been wonderfully easy to use and allows easy edits to written music Also has preloaded pieces for those beginners to reference from if needed An easy 5 for 5 from me                 Wonderful and easy
Wonderful app Im a music teacher and I like to put together my own arrangements tailored to the students specific level This app is perfect for that Even if I wouldve had to pay a lot more for it I would still be happy with the purchase                 Symphony pro
Good app for what I do              Symphony pro
Between all apps available for mobile music notation this is the one Im staying with Easier to write words too and chords is a breeze for me thank you thank you thank you                 Perfect for on the go
I am a public school teacher who bought the app to study for national boards Could you please add vocal voice option for a part as well as ukulele and xylophones Public school teachers would use this if more options were listed that are used in the elementary school music classroom              Just bought the app happy but could you add vocal and ukulele
I mainly use this to quickly get an idea down and then Music XML it to MuseScore Chords Dupont translate so nicely but it works well when Im away from my computer                 Works a charm for me
Having composed for 30 years now my main tool is Finale 2014 When I wanted to compose on the road with my iPad Air I researched Notate Me Notion and Symphony Pro I went with Symphony Pro and am elated that I did It is not stress NOT Finale but as a way to get ideas out of your head and down on paper its brilliant Easy to use if you just take some time and explore its many great features Take it with you and let everything around you inspire you and give you the freedom to write without limits I was able to take the XML file and import in into Finale A little tweaking and VOILA a fully functional Finale 2014 file 10                 Great tool to compose on the fly
I am amazed by the fine tuned control you can achieve with this app absolutely awesome execution Is Glissando supported That is pretty much the only notation I cannot find Thanks for such an amazing tool G                 Excellent
Great app at a great price Not so great for the prolific composer but it is great if you are on the go and if you are trying to get ideas down              Great for on the go and a must for composers
I have tried many times to import midi files I dont know if it is only an issue of current version but it always failed me the rhythm lost every times and the notes are just wrong and it failed to give out a usable midi file several times you guys really need to take care of those basic functions     It works hardly with midi files
I love how good the piano sounds when youre playing your composition back The sound is excellent Not that thats essential but it reflects the excellent quality of this app overall So glad I bit the bullet and bought this app                 Worth every penny
New version Thank you for the updated version Looks very promising I finally made the update and Im impressed with new restyling Interface feels much more touch screen intuitive now Im anxious to put this new version to the test I loosely followed the online saga of this languishing app and its flawsI now have to say its very heartening to see such an amazing redesign If it holds up Ill definitely up this to 5 stars Old version Been using this app on and off for the past two months When it works its splendid I really enjoyed jotting down exporting and printing some quick choral sections I was working on The program really did the job I needed However the program crashes too much At one point the program completely lost all exporting ability and I had to reinstall It worked fine again after the reinstall But now a few weeks later I cant even open a new file or song without the program dying Looks like Ill reinstall again sigh This program is so close to being the cats meowjust fix the crashing                 This new version is looking great
I just purchased this last night and have only started using it But I think its already love Very intuitive and touchscreen operation blows away any keyboard shortcuts on the PCMac based applications Although a few keyboard shortcuts would be nice for use with bluetooth keyboards cursor actions delete key If these are already there I havent yet figured out how to enableuse my apologies thanks This is truly the tool Ive been looking for Creative juices are flowing                 I think its love
Notating music by touch is a decidedly tough business and sometimes the fussiness of moving the little dots into place can be aggravating But the overall functionality is quite deep and it isnt too hard to make good charts with this as a primary tool Recommended              Surprisingly deep useful
