Writer Pro: Note, Write, Edit, Read

This app has earned and maintained its spot on my home screen for years Its one of the most useful apps on my phone Wether taking notes or composing an important email this is my go to app for anything that involves more than a few sentences iCloud sync works seamlessly with the desktop app and files can be shared easily The app is stable and updated quickly whenever needed The extra features afforded by the pro version may or may not be worth it to you but rest easy knowing that wether you use them or not they dont get in the way The whole writing experience is kept simple letting you focus on the writing itself Using the app has been a very solid and consistent experience over the years Its well worth the money                 Has been on my home screen for years

Still the best text writer on iOS and Mac for writers I guess some people use it for coding but I use it for writing without having to worry about all the irrelevant formatting hassles that are in Pages and Word I just want to focus on ASCII text really I was very disappointed in the Pro version but this latest version makes up for everything almost I actually liked the iCloud sync from the original iA Writer as it always worked for me seamlessly across devices and Macs For this latest version to sync you will depend on Dropbox which is still OK but it is not as fast for me as iCloud Some people did not have good experiences with iCloud so I guess Dropbox is a good common ground iCloud doesnt seem to work for me in this latest version ironically Other than that its a great new version and does away with the silly writing modes that the Pro version attempted to implement I dont know about others but there is only ONE mode I use for writing and switching around to arbitrary modes is really annoying and counterproductive The menu system in this new version reminds me a little of the old 1980s Macintosh UI but thats maybe just me Its kinda cool                 This version 3 replaces Pro and previous iA Writer

A total waste of 999 Horribly unintuitive buggy way worse then the free app I have never written a review before so that should tell developers how much of a disaster this is Especially for an app that prides itself on simplicity and elegance Fail     Buyer beware

Although technically an update of Writer Pro the new app is more in line with the original iA Writer app It keeps some of the enhancements of the Pro version such as syntax analysis which isnt for everyone but wont bother you if you dont use it while getting rid of features that in my opinion made Pro annoying to the point of being unusable Im talking specifically of the assumptions Pro made about the writing workflow which resulted in a specific filesystem structure Happily theres no more of that You can now organize your iA Writer folder in iCloud any way you like and the very handy inapp library will pick it up no matter whether youre on iOS or Mac                 Great update in the good iA Writer tradition

It was a great app Until the last update They moved to a single serif font which is ugly And it has a problem with scrolling Once you write over 280 words you are stuck and cannot see the cursor anymore Worthless until they get back to the old version     This last update ruined it

First off the new Mac update of this is amazing 5 stars But this new iOS version is so odd making the app not only lose its elegant simplicity but it tries even adding noniOS elements like a desktopstyle menu with drop down menus And this menu takes the place of being able to see and edit the title of your document Doesnt feel iOS at all and clicking between menus makes the screen flash dark and light and it even froze the app at one point Also it doesnt seem to sync Dropbox only opens Dropbox files when online When turning off wifi and clicking a file it results in an unending loading animation for me with no message which isnt very useful        Meh

Absolutely perfect easy to use word processor for the iPad What the hell are people complaining about Its a very solid app with a clean interface Worth the money I had the previous versions and tried other similar apps for iOS and always ended up coming back to iA Writer And I like this new menu interface Please keep it The other reviewer complaining that its hard to use is wrong This is a good setup                 Perfect

Phraseology has equivalent features but IA has the cloud and cross platform apps that make it more useful In any case it is the best text processor and mark up editor I have ever seen                 The best

Synch between iPhone and iPad turned to trash        Not so nice as it seemed

Ugh I cant believe I wasted so much money on this app Initially it seemed great with the features and interface but its not reliable in saving your files I started a new note and then I guess I didnt have internet connectivity while I was writing and when I opened the note later when I DID have connectivity the document was blank Dont buy this app until they can fix this issue with syncing to iCloud     Deleted my text

I have written the better part of a 100000 word novel on my iPad and phone using using this software and then copying into Scrivener In future versions would love to see a save into Scrivener directly function But this is so easy that you can easily forget that you are not at a conventional keyboard                 Easy to use while composing

The problems were fixed in this update All is well again I will leave the old review text here Just for the record Old review follows I really wanted to like this newer newer version as I love the original I never did the Pro upgrade because I loved the original Even saw the bad reviews here and went looking for more external reviews to see more before I spent the 10 After seeing on the devs website that this will be the only version to be maintained and I do love the original I went ahead and bought My two biggest complaints is it kept failing the dropbox connection when I was editing and if I tried to load a newly converted iOS 9 note from Dropbox the app locked up Needs more work and not worth 10 And I have no complaints as the others here The writing experience is as minimalist as ever and the iCloud saving seems to work with no problems also I will continue to use the app Will return to upgrade rating if ever fixed Robert9001                 All Issues Fixed

Since the update every time I try to open the app it instantly crashes     FIX PLEASE

For the features its not worth the price Additionally the App is constantly having a Document Error It happens after you leave the working document and try to go back It doesnt sync and keeps you from being able to write due to the constant popup        Not worth it

Wish I could write a more positive review I loved this app until the update came out which overall I think still makes it a nice app to use but with a lot of features I havent any interest in using My main problem is that since I updated Ive lost several notes which Ill never retrieve I never worried about that happening with iA Writer before the update was installed and Ive received no response from the company about this issue I hope this is something that can be corrected otherwise Im back to looking for a better writing app     Back to looking for a better writing app

Some great features were added to this update finally bringing the app closer to other markdown editors However it crashes quite frequently during normal usage and nearly every time when trying to import a document from another app none of my other apps do this This is clearly unacceptable for any app let alone one marketed as distraction free app On the upside the developer frequently publishes updates ensuring the big glitches will be solved before long I will upgrade my rating to 4 stars once we see a more stable version        Great upgrade big stability problems

Imported a text document from Google Drive and began editing After working for about 40 minutes I locked the screen and when I reopened the app I was faced with a completely blank document Apparently there is no local storage or backup Extremely frustrating experience     Lost my work with no warning

I used to use this app all the time and paid a lot of money for the pro versions on iOS and my Mac Why can I no longer change the name of a document by simply tapping on the name at the top of a page I like to regularly create new versions of documents within a Dropbox folder as backups I used to select all make a new document paste and change the name of this doc with days date Ive been wading through the pompous language in the help section but the site is really incomplete Changing the name of a document should be simple and information as to how to do this should easy to find You self described information architects really managed to stuff up a great app     Destroyed a good app

Missing essential features     New update is awful

Im constantly presented with an error that says Document might have been moved or deleted My document is on Dropbox and I lost everything I wrote in the past 30 minutes Dont push an app to the store if you havent tested it enough     Buggy

I found the previous version hard to navigate and a bit unintuitive but now everything is clear The new layout templates also look great                 Fantastic update

This is really bad The typing is delayed it takes about 12 seconds for anything I type to show up Seriously This app is for typing and typing doesnt work This beautiful app is currently totally useless     I never give bad reviews

The previous version was great I relied a lot on workflows and the UI was awesome I can no longer edit documents without a connection This update removes nearly everything that made this app unique     Not happy with the update

What a disappointing turn for iA Writer especially on iPad The merger of writer and writer pro has resulted in an app that doesnt do what its supposed to do well The File menu with drop downs is a MicrosoftEngineering convention which flies in the face of the touchable effortless affordance of a handheld device Fraught with options which I dont need my writing experience just got a lot more heavy The prior version was so simpleopen the app start a new file and start writing No fonts no sizing no need to manage anything I long for my classic app and since it has been overridden I have no hope in going back to it I know it was intended to be a nice gesture but it has turned out to be a punishment Now we start looking for a new simple writing app Sorry guys     Oops This app has jumped the shark

Why mess with what was perfect     Why

This formerly wonderful app has been updated in such a badly managed way that it has become confusing and frustrating to use If it aint broke dont fix it        Bungled transition

This is an app Ive wanted to love since the first version and this new one integrating the simplicity of v1 with the power features of iA Writer Pro NAILS the compromises This is the Markdown writer Ive always wanted meshing tweakfree beauty in writing mode with extremely useful notoverbearing editorial features Best of all both iCloud and Dropbox are treated as firstclass citizens for sync Im a thrilled user on Mac and iOS now                 The bar has been raised

This app might be awesome But youd not know that since its not intuitive and their howto videos and information are outdated older version of the software Short of googling YouTube videos still no luck it basically restricts the capabilities of the software With the amount of money they are asking for it it seems that they would stay up to date with the support documents Buyer beware     Outdated support docsvideos

Updated to ios9 Reset the phone because I wanted to start fresh Now when trying to use Dropbox the app get stuck with the message Loading documents This may take a few minutes if you have a large library Without Dropbox supports this app is a virtual paperweight     Broken with Dropbox on fresh install ios9

If youre a high school or college student who intends to use this app with dropbox and complete writing assignments from your phone then the controversial recent update has made it the best app available for that However if you were using it as I was as a beautiful and intuitive way to easily keep notes reminders and short ideas or as an uninhibited way to get as many words down as one can without worrying about editing then the new update has completely butchered it Personally Im mortified at the direction ia has chosen to take this app in but I suppose it now does more for very productive types Its not for everyone anymore Use discretion        Ia writer pro utterly butchered

I never rate apps But This app went from being fluid intuitive and beautiful to something much less than that Disappointed by the forced updateconversion Used to be my FAVORITE app now its ok Please consider bringing back the old version at least in the distinction between notes and writing mode and also navigation with gestures instead of just menus All the export capabilities are great but do not compare to the disappointment overall     Umm ok

I bought and liked the Pro version This replacement seems far more cumbersome Also I cant seem to find a way to move my documents of the Local storage to my synced Dropbox account Please give me back the app I bought and paid for originally     Disappointing

Missing basic writing features such as underlining italicizing boldface or perhaps changing the word color These features are extremely useful to me yet are not included in this 999 Pro writing app I do love to use this app for my long essays blog posts and personal novels when I travel and dont want a bulky laptop Im really loving the user interface and I quickly found myself adjusting to the functions I can work quickly with this app Please please update this pro app I think users should get full writing benefits purchasing the pro              Pro

I dont like this new update It was simple and lightweight before Now it seems heavy and weird At least give me back that offwhite day mode        This was my favorite app

The developers decided to dump the old Pro version which is a great choice I used a demo version of the Pro on my computer but the write edit and other writing modes were confusing Im glad they went back to the old iA writer format I just want something that will allow me to write text I can polish it up in another app once I create the content in this app Im extremely happy they dont have that annoying hamburger menu where all the functions are hidden If youre done writing just drop that keyboard and the menu pops up Start typing again and everything disappears                 Incredible update

At the iOS 900 release iA Writer was usable but not as terrible some reviews claim it was I have an iPhone 5S that has quite a bit of miles on it for a 2 year old iPhone this app and iOS 901 work almost flawlessly together I have an iPad AIR 18 months old I think not sure but iA Writer is solid on it as well for those who want to use Geekbench scores for comparison to how your device may handle the app users should leave their iOS device specs w ratingsmany bad reviews can easily be from 4S users who refuse to upgrade If you truly want a fast and easytointegratewithclouddrivesEvernote etc you should just go with Quick Drafts or Drafts both are superior apps and 5 star worthy This is a good fauxmarkdown editor with fast accessibilityloading to saved notes but Id suggest writing your notes elsewhere and pasting themaccessing them via cloud drives through here              Good not great should improve as iOS 901 is not perfect for many apps

I purchased the pro versions for my laptop desktop iPhone and iPad This last update has ruined what was a fantastic experience I am at a loss for words as the direction taken with this last update Please fix this now     Bring Back the Old Version

I was happily using ByWord and then got interested in it as I wanted a bit more control I am working on a piece of fiction I connected the app to my Dropbox account and in the middle of the story it started throwing the error that there is an error or there is no internet I had internet and everything is working fine except for the app I was lucky enough copied the around 1000 words and pasted them on Byword and this app closednone of the work was saved I just threw away 10 for nothing I wish Apple allows refund within 24 hours if a user is not satisfied with an app     Dissapointing
